Drives me nuts when people talk how 6-7% rates are considered "good" because in the 80's were like 13%.

It's like yeah, 13% on a house you paid 5 stones and 3 sticks for (80k) 40 years ago when 1 person's income could support a family of 5 must have been nice.

I actually just learned a lot about that period of the 80s and why the rates were so berserk

Basically both inflation and a recession were happening at the same time so the Fed couldn’t really do anything since those are contradictory problems and solving one exacerbates another. So they basically for lack of a better term had to go thermonuclear on one problem (inflation) by driving rates to an absorbent level, so they could then just deal with 1 problem at a time. I guess the term is Stagflation, and it’s what my CEO is most worried about.

i have no issues with anyone with a low interest rate lol a lot of it is timing

we also unfortunately had very little for a down payment - 0 actually - and It was before my raise so my income was like $35k a year

    so 6.99% it is

Got into this argument the other week. They were like "well yeah but people were making 20k-30k back then" and I'm like YEAH PEOPLE ARE STILL HARDLY MAKING MORE THAN THAT but those same houses cost 700k, along with car payments jacked up, insurances, phones, student loans, daycare prices skyrocketing, beefs, food prices gone crazy, etc.

i really don't think people realize when talking about pushing up the minimum wage that $15 an hour is only $31k before taxes

    shit's fucked

We paid way over for this one at a bad interest time because we needed to get the fuck back to Dallas and get the fuck out of central Texas
