Regardless yes I do need to be available. Can't just be gone for hours without being able to be reached. Doesn't mean I can't step away to move laundry or play a video game. Does mean I can't see a fucking movie haha.

 

I suppose there are jobs where you submit things for review or whatever at some interval but that has never been my experience.

I’ve worked at jobs that go both ways when there’s slow or no business, thankfully my current job is very chill about me basically doing whatever I want if I have 1 or 0 tables lol. But that’s also because I am very very thorough about all tasks and never half ass anything or lose track of time sensitive things my customers need. If I’m on my phone it’s because there’s LITERALLY nothing that needs to be done for several minutes haha

 

Cannot stand jobs that expect a server to just fucking stand there like an NPC and just wait for a customer whenever there’s no business

i am an adult who has made himself invaluable to his team who knows not to bug me if i’m getting my work done at a high clip rate and quality level. it is as simple as that.
