I mean it’s because of capitalism, they can make more money off less space if they mow trees down and give everyone the exact same shape and size yard

It’s surprising how little land can become 200-300 single family homes if you design the neighborhood like that, I get why it’s a thing - it just sucks and is an ugly symptom of how we organize our economy

the township I live in basically has insane rules and building stipulations so they cut down very little, power lines are underground so not a single power line is visible, and signs for businesses can only be on the ground and below a certain height. only downside really is the whole town looks exactly the same so if you don't know your way around it gets confusing because there aren't as many easily visible landmarks.

To have a new build house in a beautiful wooded area these days, you gotta go way outside a city - to the point your long commute to work negatively affects how you feel about where you live

it’s much more doable if you WFH at least 3 days a week, but then you have the opposite issue - WFH workers bringing big city salaries into rural areas and driving up home prices way beyond what local blue collar workers can afford

just a challenge on all sides.

I would accept a house where I can sit my ass outside on a deck or patio and not be bothered to talk to every single neighbor about the weather every 4 minutes

Being that close to my backyard neighbor would drive me nuts. Luckily we have about 40 yards of prairie grass separating us.

we are that close to our neighbors on the backyard (shared fences) and I hate it. we had to put in a new fence when we moved in and had to split the cost with the 2 neighbors that border our fence. Very uncomfortable to go ask neighbors to pay for shit lmao
