I'd consider a new build for a future home if I was rich enough and could tear down and rebuild in an area I like. But I'm not gonna move out to the boonies for a new build (much more affordable)

The new builds around here suck and are in the worst spots. The one my buddy moved into was built on an old swamp.

new builds are often a) just outright cheaper than pre-existing homes if not b) cheaper after the work you have to do to fix up the house you’re buying

also idk where you live necessarily but basically everywhere i have lived has new builds going up all the time haha

MA has a really hard time with new builds just because everything is already so congested. So the good new ones are bananas expensive.

Everybody can do whatever they want but imo I would never buy a manufactured, run of the mill new-build these days. The material and build quality has become so dogshit that they're usually of much poorer quality. Fully custom is different as you basically get to handpick everything, but at like 1000000000x the cost obviously

oh, this is why I said rich because I would go the custom route. I have a couple of friends who got manufactured new builds on the outskirts of Dallas and Austin and they've had issues and had to fight a bunch with the developers when they were moving in.

yeah here those new builds are on the far reaches of the city and going further out since TX is fucking huge. I just prefer to live in a more established area ultimately.

My opinion on buying homes doesn’t matter at all but if I had the money I’d rather spend it renovating something cute. I hate how with most new construction they mow all the trees down and build 200 identical houses next to each other. Dystopian as shit and it’s not like they pass the cost savings of standardizing the homes onto you, they still charge market rate

I feel the same way about 5-over-1 apartment buildings. When they first started going up they added some cute variety to cities and felt like you can have a nice new clean looking apartment at a decent price, but it’s gone way too far and now entire city neighborhoods look exactly like that lol
