in my very small sample size experience of knowing people (men) who enter into poly relationships with women, its mostly so they can selfishly have their cake (get loving feelings and care from someone) and eat it too (still go out and sleep around). it is 1,000% not the concept, but the people that end up ruining it.

 

There are also other ways to be non monogamous aside from like, being in a relationship with several people. It can still very much be focused on a romantic commitment between two people, just with a different approach to jealousy that addresses it within and challenges the insecurities that are tied to it
