when I switched from night shift to morning shift, I got in a bad habit of drinking a energy drink a day for a good while.

im just now trying to get out of that habit with so much damn water after a recent doctors visit.

Yeah that’s already accounted for in the tip. This was a table that very easily could’ve just got wines by glass and spent $250-$275 total, but the bottle bumped them up to like $440 and then they left $20 extra on top of the gratuity because they loved all my recs

so in a sense I went from a very normal $50-$55 tip on a $250-$275 check, to $105 tip on a $440 check. It can easily go the other way if you’re too pushy, it doesn’t align with what they like, and you’re not transparent about what they’re spending - they might give you a shitty tip if they’re sticker-shocked by a $200 wine that wasn’t even up their alley. But I gave them cheaper options and more expensive options and described like 10 different bottles based on the flavor profile they said they like + what would pair well with their lamb, and let them choose what sounded like the right one.

One thing I’ve noticed of other people selling wine is people focus way too much on “this is a good wine because ____”. That’s not what makes them buy a more expensive bottle they weren’t planning on, that only works on vinos who already know they’re gonna drop dollaz on some wine.

What sells wine is, “based on what you told me and what you ordered, you would love this specific wine because ___”. That personal experience is what consistently creates that moment where the husband and wife on an anniversary look at each other and say “you wanna go for it? We’re celebrating”
