right, like, yes randall is objectively right that you can go see an indie rock show for like $20-30, i'm sure this friday night i could go to one of many small clubs in NYC and see good live music for $30-40 max, at the door, but that wasnt what we were talking about when we were talking about the prices of concerts today lol

i don't want to accuse anyone of moving goalposts because, again, randalls point wasnt wrong, its just, we were obviously talking about much larger more well known, dare i say, household names lol

I cited a band that’s comparable in size to several other bands that came up when we were discussing concert tickets. Am I saying you can go see Chappell Roan or Kendrick Lamar for $35, of course the fuck I’m not lol but I am saying a lot of bands big enough to get talked about on *chorus*, or another website vaguely geared toward music trends driven by indie labels, can be seen for $50 or less pretty easily in the DC/Baltimore area. I get stuff being more expensive in like NYC or LA but I feel like Philly venues charging $60+ fees or more to see an artist the size of AJJ is a ripoff lol. The $25-$50 show is still alive and well in DC’s best alt/indie/punk venues (930 club, Black Cat, Union Stage) and in Baltimore’s best alt/indie/punk venues (Ottobar, Soundstage, previously Rams Head Live).

When we go up to 3,000 cap amphitheaters or luxury theatres with plush seats, like when I saw The National, Big Thief, and Coheed and Cambria at The Anthem in DC, or when I saw Broken Social scene at Lincoln Theater / Kitchen Dwellers at the Hamilton, it’s still pretty common to find tickets between $60-$70 rather than them being like $100+

if i can change the subject

we went to that Sparrow place for dinner on Saturday and they sat us right in front of the door. like 4 steps from where the hostess was set up. every time a new party came in the wind came in and fucking blew my hair around. when a large party came in they were standing directly behind my wife. absolutely insane

food was good but my meal was legit like, half the amount of food that my wife got. will not go back.

I need to find a babysitter around here so we can start checking out the local restaurants. Some pretty cool stuff nearby including a restaurant owned by a chef I used to work with

Like if Gaslight Anthem, a thread favorite, played here I bet it wouldn’t be more than $80 after fees

Why do we keep exaggerating though. The bands I’m talking about are not local bands lol.

I'm really not trying to make this a whole big thing, but the argument was whether $60 was a lot to see a band of that size and you said it was.

The argument started because I said one of the many factors of me not going to see gaslight for the 10th or whatever time was not wanting to spend $60 on the ticket which then snowballed into a completely different argument.

Yeah my opinionnow is the same - $60-$70 is my ceiling and that’s only if it’s a huge alt rock band at a 3,000 cap venue like the National or Gaslight. I’m not seeing an AJJ or Pool kids for $60 but that’s what they fuckin cost in some areas now apparently.

I do accept that if it’s a pop star or hip hop artist it’s gonna be way more and that’s what that spectacle costs. But part of the appeal of seeking out alternative music has always been being able to experience them for less money and hassle and to just be able to go to a show casually like it’s going to a bar. So it sucks in 2025 to have to spend like “gotta budget for this” amounts of money on an indie rock band haha

Imagine my surprise this morning when I saw that. I think there's a chance this happened but also Patrick is a big time receiver of alcohol lobby money. It probably helped that both sides were rightfully pissed about the overreach.
