Didn’t we have a whole entire argument about me suggesting that some office/WFH workers have the ability to take a long lunch without a manager breathing down their neck, and everyone acted like I’m dumb lol

 

Yes generalizing office workers that way was dumb.

 

Never said all of them can do that. But I only suggested some can explicitly because several of you in here talk about doing exactly that lol

and then everyone acted like “no that’s not how it works” but then here’s Pat talking about taking a 3 hour lunch occasionally lol.

Btw I do have guaranteed days off, I can request off basically whenever I want, there’s maybe like 10 days a year where it’s even possible my time off request will be denied; and every Sunday and Monday we are closed for dinner. Sometimes I work tea service or do wine inventory those days

weekly income not being guaranteed sucks but it has become a lot more steady since I became assistant Somm. I get first dibs on keeping my shifts when it’s slow cause they obviously have an incentive to try to upsell wine when business isn’t great, my hourly rate also acts as a pretty good equalizer cause I get more of it / less taxes taken out when tips are lower

 

I personally would NOT enjoy a set work schedule, I actually more enjoy my week being modular and I can sometimes change the days I work if that week has something specific going on

 

Just to be clear that there are also positive tradeoffs of working in high end restaurants,

do I wish I made more money, of course, that’s why I’m on this Somm path lol. But I greatly prefer how flexible my lifestyle is. It makes some people feel much less anxiety to live a structured life and I fully understand that, for me it would increase my anxiety and make me feel like I never have extra time for non-work shit I need to do

 

this is probably all you needed to say last night to get your point across without going into a tangent about NPCs and people enjoying their weekends being 'lame and entitled' lol

what I’m saying is much more coincidental than what you think I’m saying. I’m not saying if you work a 9-5 you’re probably lame and entitled.

I’m saying a large chunk of people in general are lame and entitled, those people become MORE that way when they’re in a busy/ semi crowded environment, and the typical work schedule being so normalized forces the majority of people to all choose the same times to go out and have fun.

So, by the numbers, going out on weekends is often more of a hassle STRICTLY BECAUSE it’s just numbers / probability that way more of *those* people will be out and will be on their bullshit on a weekend. Dealing with crowds in general sucks, and you have to do it a lot more when you’re only off weekends.

it’s less about generalizing the worker and more about saying that schedule just forces you to deal with more of those people by chance
