do i seem like the kind of person that stays at cheap hotels?? these are nice hotels and they still have issues. plus neighbors, no kitchen, no private outdoor space, etc. i hate STRs for what they do to the housing market, but...i'm gonna enjoy their benefits while they're still allowed

 

Should I get this? I have another $10 off coupon. And it would be free shipping. I need a fanny pack type thing and this looks maybe a little too big.

With government jobs, you’re either super underpaid or probably overpaid

 

because there are more companies than just AirBnB, they're short term rentals

 

you get STRs if you dont use condoms

 

I’ve just been lucky to have a lot of friends in other cities who don’t mind hosting me in town haha, it’s made tour way more doable on my budget. It’s never an expectation - like, some people hate having house guests and totally get that and wouldn’t expect just anyone to do it - but people are more generous than you would think

 

I just try to be a really out of the way / quiet house guest and clean up after myself as much as possible & leave the space neater than I found it, cause I’ve had a lot of generosity thrown my way in my travels

The longer you work at a government job the more you make, it just takes time to build it up.

My wife in 8 years makes a lil more each year and she’s now more than doubled her starting salary.

It was once the easy, stable option rather than making too much in the private so they lay you off or outsource to Costa Rica

Maybe a hot take but a lot of times Airbnb is a better value than a hotel especially when you have a kid. Pittsburgh as a recent example was weirdly 250-300 a night for like a Marriott so I got a two bedroom Airbnb for 200 a night.

 

more stress, responsibility, and less security. it's a position where if the city council decides it wants a new city manager, i would probably get let go by the new person who would bring in their own deputies and assistants. in my current role I am 95% guaranteed to retire from this job. if i take the new job, it's like 50/50 on whether I'd still be with the city in 5-10 years

With a hotel I don’t have to do a 5 page checklist of shit before I leave. I just simply check out. Plus the last few times we traveled the AirBNB was the same price as the hotels.
