I came in there locked and loaded but that guy doesn’t like alcohol so it would be a waste of time to try to convince him nice wine has merit

I’m not here to shame non drinkers, even if they’re shaming drinkers. It’s not like non drinkers don’t have a point when they criticize alcohol culture, their overall points are valid… he could be less obtuse and judgmental about it for sure but eh, not a battle that can be won with reasoning and logic

Ah yeah. Hard to argue with something so subjective

A craft beer at the average restaurant is probably a much better example of “good beer” than the average wine by glass at a restaurant is a good example of wine, so I think that biases people, and the truth is the only way they’ll ever have incentive to try something nicer is for someone else to buy and share it - why spend more if a $12 drink wasn’t that good? So I get that kind of logic

But idk what he’s tried, maybe he has had nice wine but it was a wine that vinos like cause it’s funky and weird and interesting (like red burgundy) rather than a real crowd pleasing bottle. Maybe he wasn’t used to tannins and had a strong cab sauv or Sangiovese that his pallete wasn’t accustomed to yet. Maybe he tried a really buttery oak driven California chardonnnay which is a polarizing wine style people either love or hate. It could be anything.

I did put some context behind the part about sommeliers sounding like bullshit though lol.
