Bama probably in but if BYU beats TTU I think they’re out also if UVA beats Duke they’re in and should be in lol awesome season they’re having
You saying so does not make it true background/history, records, statistical performances all point to massive similarities. ranked 50+ in offense this season, 70+ in defense, just barely in front of Florida. For a guy who’s a defensive guru doing it at a much lower level of competition. And since he’s such a discipline first coach, it’s great to see them ranked like 120 in penalties. literally, I can’t find a single thing where I can point to and say, “oh there’s an upgrade” meanwhile, we paid Billy 20m to go away.
Better recruiter than Billy when they were in the same conference, won the conference sooner and rebuilt a worse program more immediately, then moved to a better conference and maintained the same level of quality in year one without dipping and then became the best G5 team in year 2. His resume is better than Napier’s, man. I’d rather have Golesh because after Napier id rather have an offensive-minded coach but they aren’t the same lol. I don’t think he will be good but he will be better than Napier which honestly might be the worst case for UF bc you won’t have such an easy case of firing him as quickly lol
He also plays the portal and buys into the NIL current vision of the sport way better than Napier did and most crucially will probably accept allowing someone else to call plays which is what killed Napier. I get being bummed you didn’t get Lane or Riley but acting like he’s Napier 2.0 is stupid.
Napier was a chode. Idk if Sumrall is or not but a huge part of why Napier failed is hes just kind of a jackass. I know this looks comically similar but I like Sumrall more than I liked Napier. Also a Sumrall type is a better move than Kiffin. And definitely better than Riley lmao
Alabama not getting in 2 years in a row as like the last team out would be hilarious (but I dont see it)
I dont think its wacky to say that the fact Miami couldn't win the conference in a year where they might not get an auto bid is a pretty big knock.
Napier’s entire schtick was recruiting and rebuilding the infrastructure for the team and he did a decent job of it given the performance on the field. Napier did not bring big numbers of portal players in but he def brought in major contributors. meanwhile, Sumrall took over a Tulane program that was had 23 wins the two years before he arrived and 19 the two he was there. Why not go for other options? Change the course? There are options besides Riley and kiffin. Brohm, Elliott, or any number of coordinators.
It’s so easy to see that we will be in this exact same place in three years. At least hire someone with upside that can chart a course we didn’t just live through.
He has upside. Also easy to forget but his QB transferred and is starting in the acc conference championship game this week.
being like "yeah napier doesn't play the portal well and sumrall does BUT..." is just goofy. you have to play the portal well to succeed in the current vision of the sport. even your bamas and OSUs dont succeed without doing it. billy had a weird dabo-like outdated vision of the sport and, to elf's point, seems like an asshole. there is no reason to presume that sumrall will be the same thing because the job before the job he's currently leaving was in the same conference lol
