I would bet the thing holding all of this up is that Kiffin DOES want to coach the playoffs and both OM and LSU are like uhhh dude come on.
So it’s basically this? Byes: 1) Winner of OSU/IU 2) Winner of UGA/Bama 3) TTU as B12 Champ/loser of OSU/IU 4) Loser of OSU/IU or Loser of UGA/Bama if TTU not B12 champ Hosts: 5) Loser of UGA/Bama if TTU is B12 Champ or Oregon 6) Oregon or Ole Miss 7) Ole Miss or Oklahoma 8) Oklahoma or TTU as B12 loser Away: 9) Miami 10) Notre Dame 11) Virginia 12) Tulane/UNT Vandy, BYU, and Utah all left looking in despite being better than Virginia (and probably Miami). BYU upsetting TTU has to kick one of Miami or Notre Dame out to keep TTU in. It’ll get absolutely wild if they don’t honor H2H there. I’d listen to arguments of BYU as B12 loser being worthy to be in regardless, too, but I don’t think the committee will.
This might just be me being overly worried, but I think Bama may still be in a situation where they need to win to get in. If they lose to UGA and BYU wins the B12, I think TT still makes it and it comes down to a 3 loss Bama vs a 2 loss ND (should be comparing Miami here but the committee doesn’t care about this H2H for some reason) for the last at large. Ohio St, IU, Oregon, TAMU, Ole Miss, Georgia, Okla, TT, ACC Champ/JMU, UNT/Tulane are set. That leaves Bama, BYU, ND, and Miami fighting for 2 spots and if BYU can guarantee one, Bama would have to jump ND.
I think the loser of B10/SEC CG will always be guaranteed entry unless it ends up like this year’s ACC situation. The instant the loser of one of those 2 CG isn’t included in the playoffs, no CG will ever be played again.
Yeah its Notre dame, byu, Miami, vandy for one 1 slot (I think ole miss should be on the hot seat. Bad resume plus this garbage but i think theyre safe) Me personally? Id take Notre dame but I understand the h2h logic for Miami
I still wish they kept the "byes go to conf champs" rule (you could have changed it where if the team isnt top 12 then they dont get the bye or whatever) This entire playoff format made way more sense too before the conferences stopped being a thing (texas going to the sec sorta ruined college sports tbh). Ideally top 4 conf champs made sense 5 years ago. Ill agree that if everyone holds serve (favorites win). Ohio St #1, Georgia #2, Indiana #3, Texas Tech #4. A&M #5. Oregon #6. Ole Miss #7 Oklahoma #8. Alabama #9. Notre dame #10. #11 Virginia. #12 Tulane.
Gimme 5. Oregon vs. 12. North Texas 8. Oklahoma vs. 9. Notre Dame 6. Texas A&M vs. 11. James Madison 7. Mississippi vs. 10. Miami Sets up Oregon/Indiana rematch, blue blood face off in ND/OSU, Texas school rivalry, and Carson Beck redemption (lol) arc too
Also, the ACC not getting a playoff team EXCLUSIVELY because they allowed Texas and California to claim they touch the Atlantic, is sweet justice
It is very rich that the year the B10 publicly demanded they get four auto bids, they didn’t have a fourth team worth a slot.
Ole Miss is 100% in putting Vandy in over them bc their coach is leaving is one of the dumbest things I’ve read in here however I do think it’ll effect their seeding
Fuck, as a Bama fan I don’t like that Auburn hire for selfish reasons. His USF teams always played well against us.
