NIL should exist. The portal should exist. But let’s get together and make some rules around it. Let’s have a players union form so they’re represented in these rules. Why is this controversial?

 

I’m not saying there shouldn’t be structure. There should be. If the structure is teams and players shouldn’t be allowed to talk to each other after their seasons end that is a bad structure lol

 

Again the current system is annoying but *is working* whether you like it or not lol

 

For the record I have also said this both when tampering benefitted and hurt the nba team I root for. Tampering rules are stupid and punitive regardless of the sport

Mendoza entered the portal, then spent time making a decision before committing to Indiana (the gap in time says enough in this regard). He likely fielded offers during his time in the portal (Miami was rumored). His brother played for Indiana and gave him info I'm sure. That is very different than Indiana coming to Cal games and throwing money his way. I think this is a bad argument regardless of whether or not your point is right

 

Again, this is why we need a CBA. If both sides agreed to allow tampering, fine. If both sides said there shouldn’t tampering, then it’s a rule. But there are no rules! We just make it up as we go lol that’s my point

 

You could never have a union across the whole sport with the difference in conference rules for in conference games each season. You could have conference-based unions sure

No one seemed to have an issue with DJ Lagway essentially getting told there was no place for him to stay at Florida. Incoming coaches abandoning players that committed to stay at their school seems much worse and more pressing of an issue than current athletes having conversations with other schools

Speaking for myself, but i find the coaching thing to be a massive problem too. My beef could be summed up very simply: "this system sucks ass"

I don’t think I’m being dense but I guess I wouldn’t know lol. Changes are obviously going to come to the sport and are warranted. All I ever said was the change that was originally stated (that other schools and players can’t court current players) is a bad one lol. It is.

Man. You are doing a terrible job at reading. I said that he actively wanted to stay and the coach forced him out by dismissing him the one time they met. Which no one had an issue with.
