really the biggest issue for the NBA (and I dunno how much Silver has control over it but feels like he could have more) is how the NBA is presented by their media partners. The vast majority of talk is about who's gonna get traded or leave the team and very rarely about the actual games. the sport is wildly more popular during the offseason than during the actual regular season haha
I’m sure there’s been games drawing higher tv ratings on occasions but I find this hard to believe considering the sport is like 140 years old

While I think Hockey is a better product and people here should give it a shot because the Stanley Cup Finals is magic The 25th best NBA player is a bigger star than Connor McDavid and the ~75th best NBA player is probably ahead of whomever is #2 in the NHL lol
well in the 2020s the world series has averaged 1.5 million more viewers than the NBA Finals helps that the MLB has had LA in the World Series the past two seasons but 4 of the last 6 seasons the World Series has been outdrawing the NBA Finals
A natural byproduct of the player movement, felt most directly in the NBA. Players have a bigger voice, they use it, it drums up interest in them personally more than the team itself. Doesn't help that every player has a podcast, and everyone in the NBA has the twitter fingers of a 16 year old mean girl lol
