I like the NBA Cup, it’s pretty fun, but Jesus Christ how much is the league paying Stan Van Gundy to say how great it is? It’s like every four minutes. Just let Eagle and Wade talk for a bit bud.
On one hand I want the spurs to win so I can celebrate it. On the other hand, if they lose it literally means nothing (same if they win). Theres a problem here
I guess on the bright side the Thunder lost the cup last year and look how they ended up. Not like we lost any grounds in the standings
It’s never going to mean as much as the championship and it shouldn’t, but it’s fun to watch. In time it’ll be a fun little bragging rights thing and it or just a neat thing to chase like winning the cup, regular season record, and the championship in one season. It doesn’t need to mean much more than that.
They should probably make this game a tie-breaker for playoff seeding though. I know they want it to stand on its own from the playoffs, but a little extra incentive like that would be pretty big especially in the West.
Oh also invite the G-League teams like what would happen in the European tournaments it’s modeled after. I want to see the Capital City Go-Go on the big stage.
i think the nba cup is fun, it obviously is good for players to get that money, but, i just think its so GOOFY the way the nba socials are posting about it like the team just won game 7 of the finals. it feels so forced.

The obvious effort from the NBA and Amazon to try and market the Cup as this prestigious trophy and ingenious idea was embarrassing (see every other word from Van Gundy other commentators for Amazon). It’s a fun wrinkle to the season. It could become more meaningful over time on its own and with some additional format tweaks, but they really need to just let it be its own thing. It’s fun and that’s all it needs to be right now. No need to try and elevate it as near equal to the title. No one believes that.
They should make the all star game relevant again. Find a way to get the players to care instead of all these stupid changes too
They should simply do an all-star game. East vs West. It’s fine. It should be obvious by now that all these format changes don’t do anything. Just let the plays play some glorified street ball and then play defense for the last five minutes.
