I think this mostly answers the opening ceremony of LA 2028 confusion - traditional parade of athletes will be at SoFi Stadium, but the Coliseum will still be involved somehow (doesn't sound like they know how yet). Coliseum can't do the parade of athletes and the other normal production elements of an opening ceremony (TV, infrastructure, sound, etc), since it would have to undergo a several-hundred million dollar renovation. Actual torch lighting will be at SoFi, but it sounds like they want a torch lit at the Coliseum as well. After opening ceremony at SoFi, they will then spend the next week building the pool for the swimming events the following week

 

Also, flag football - how many countries will be involved in that? How popular is the sport outside the US? Are there leagues in other countries or something?

 

Man, it sucks that you can’t download replays of the events on peacock. I’ve been road tripping since the start of the 2nd week and was hoping to download stuff and watch in the evenings, but nope. Definitely not renewing that subscription.

 

I'm not sure about Flag Football, but in terms of international Gridiron Football Mexico, Canada, Japan, and Germany are pretty competitive. Basically North America and places where the US has military bases.
