They have the matches for the crowd but the actual event is the backstage politicking for the gold

I kinda don't want the Olympics to stop. I don't need the pagentry or even the nationalism. I just want a year round platform to watch the best athletes in niche sports.

For the pro wrestling as an Olympic sport thing: I think in theory it makes sense, but in practice it wouldn't. The main obstacle would be finding judges who are both knowledgeable veterans and not shady carnies with an agenda, which is impossible. The culture of wrestling I think is far from ready for it be something like gymnastics or figure skating.

US is the only country that has a man on their artistic swimming team. Although technically he can compete with the women in the Olympics, he still didn't get sent to Paris. Team USA having the only mixed gender artistic swimming squad would have been so cool.

Breaking won’t be in the next Olympics. Might be back in the one after that.

I would say it is weird that it was in France and won’t be in its country of origin, but really if you dig into it, it isn’t that weird at all.

I looked into this a while ago and apparently 3x3 basketball is the biggest “urban team sport” in the world. Don’t think they included soccer in the street/yard/park/whatever in that, but either way it’s definitely a legit reason.

Yeah I really miss the vibe of the Olympics as well; the one big event in our lives where it seems the whole world comes together in a joyous occasion, and for a lot of people its a great feeling, because it doesn't make them feel alone. Like they're a part of, or are witnessing something, together with tons of other people. Seeing so many inspiring performance across countless events, all made incredibly accessible now with the advent of streaming. Can't wait for LA 2028.

I’m more of a Winter Olympics guy, it’s probably in my DNA, but I did really enjoy this, especially because of the streaming.

All this hype about LA28, but barely anybody talking about Winter Olympics Northern Italy in 2026. Winter Olympics getting little respect.

It depends on where you are I guess, but yeah it always gets outshined because the sports are more niche (as in fewer countries have them on a large enough scale). A lot of them are actually great spectator sports though.

And then a few hours later…

So kinda appears the US is taking the “well, she won between the three of them so” hardline approach and also supposedly have proof they submitted the request in time.

So I've been searching, but can't find a solid answer; will the opening ceremony in 2028 be held at the LA Coliseum, or SoFi Stadium? I'm seeing several websites mention either of them, and then a few sites saying both will hold the opening ceremony, so what's the deal

They moved swimming to week 2 so that SoFi can host the opening ceremony, then have the pool built.

So maybe the Coliseum hosts the closing for the same reason.

    Official site says otherwise, haha

    LA Memorial Coliseum

"In 2028, it will become the first venue in history to host the Track and Field competitions and the Opening Ceremony in three Olympic Games."

So I just asked ChatGPT "Where is the opening ceremony of the LA 2028 Olympics being held?" and it answered:

"The opening ceremony of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics is planned to take place across two iconic venues: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium. This marks a unique approach as the ceremony will be split between two locations, with a large portion of the event happening at SoFi Stadium, the NFL stadium in Inglewood, while the traditional Olympic cauldron lighting is expected to take place at the historic Coliseum, which has previously hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984."

Da fuq, how on Earth will that work
