This is Rugby Sevens. It’s a simplified, quicker version of the game.

Normally it’s 15 a side, 80 minutes total.

 

New Zealand are just wildly good at rugby lol.

 

Sevens isn't a typical Rugby game. It isn't the one that most people go to see live. Rugby Union matches are about 80 minutes.

 

US team used to have the fastest rugby player in the world, Carlin Isles. Played in both Rio and Tokyo; briefly played 15's in Scotland, and tried out for the Detroit Lions football team. Awesome, humble dude

 

Makes sense, I was wondering how a sport that only lasts 14 minutes a game could be financially viable haha

So one niche sport I have been doing a deep dive on is Olympic Weightlifting. Don't sleep on it when it comes on next week, it'll be interesting.

For over 20 years China has absolutely dominated the sport, but in the last couple of years they have started to show signs of falling off as their best lifters start to age. The US has a 20 year old kid named Hampton Morris in the 61kg weightclass that is basically a weightlifting prodigy. A few months ago he became the first American to win a gold in a World Weightlifting Championship in 50 years. He also got the featherweight world record for the clean & jerk at 176kg in the same event. His snatch is ok but his c&j is masterful. America has the first real shot at beating China in decades. An American lifter hasn't won Olympic gold since the 1950's.

 

Watching SA Rugby makes me want to rewatch that one South Africa rugby movie where Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mandela.

Noah Lyons the windsurfer from my town did 6 races today. He won one and finished top 5 in the rest. Currently #4 in the series. Has a real shot at getting US a rare sailing medal.

 

A UK rider was #1 in the Men's BMX quals. Both Team USA riders qualified. Hopefully it doesn't get postponed due to rain tomorrow

 

Nice to have picked up a third gold today in the shooting. We’ve had some disappointing performances so far, but hoping team GB can keep quietly picking them up here and there.

Yeah I was thinking that but apparently the teams are all doing events at the same time so hopefully they were cheering the US team not the Chinese gymnast falling

timing was super suspicious though. i have it on mute so couldn't actually hear but definitely seemed like that one guy was yelling something at the Chinese gymnast and I'm guessing it wasn't "that's okay get back up you've got this!"
