I play Madden that way because I'm giving up 30 points either way, I might as well score 40. I don't think this is similar to the Bengals at all either. Can't think of who it's similar to. Has there been a team to have one of the most expensive WR rooms in the league immediately turn around and spend two top 40 picks on WRs? I also just don't like taking guys like Legette that high. Historically, guys who are described as great athletes that just need to learn technique don't fare well.

DK is literally one of the greatest athletes the position has ever seen. And he went 64th. Sutton also has had one 1,000 yard season

Having one of the most expensive WR rooms in the league is exactly what I’m trying to fix lol. We shouldn’t be signing Kirk’s and Gabe’s to inflated contracts and acting like the smartest man in the room. We don’t have Tom Brady. We have a young QB who needs elite, obvious talent to show him how to make low percentage plays at the highest level.

I’m so, very much, incredibly here for how Randall wants to build a team.

If your answer to team building is “offense goes BRRRRR” I’m in. if it’s about cap flexibility, asset management or “value” I’m asleep.

    Offense. Goes. Brrrrrr.

We did though. So that's where we're at.

Also the last part is true but how does adding a raw 5th-year senior with one year of production help that?

A guy who is fast as fuck and also consistently wins jump balls as your WR3 / 4 is a luxury, that’s how. I drafted Adonai to know how to run routes and beat zone. I drafted Legette to be a matchup problem when they wanna play man / press.

It’s ok to have different philosophies though, neither of us needs to “win” this argument. But I’m sticking to mine. Sometimes a guy who’s damn good at backyard “you throw it up there and I’ll dominate my opponent physically and go get it” is what you need to beat a team that’s thwarting everything you practiced that week.

I don't disagree that that skillset helps. I disagree about the value and Tobias meme.

I think the Tobias meme issue you’re talking about is more applicable to players like Keon Coleman where everybody assumes they have a certain skillset because they’re big and fast but he actually sucks at contested catches and beating press.

Legette is the opposite. It’s “damn what an athlete” because of his 2023 tape where it didn’t matter how he ran his route cause he got body positioning and timed the jump right and had incredible hang time on a regular basis. Or where it didn’t matter if he maximized separation cause he turned on the fuckin jets and went 24 mph and blew by everyone anyway. Legette is big and fast IN pads, he USES his vert very well rather than just having it but the timing is off, and can hand fight to get away from grabby motherfuckers who would shut down a Keon Coleman.

“But maybe it could work for us”

him implying that taking a raw but more athletic dude is usually not a good bet

Remember when you drafted Jalen Carter? In hindsight, gotta go Gibbs and get the Brrrrrrrrr

I would agree with Matt, if I was drafting Legette in round 1 to be my WR1

drafting him in round 2 to be my WR3 is a VERY different story, that’s a dude that can straight up BULLY a CB3 and that would be what I am doing any time teams are playing great man/press coverage - come out in trips or another four wide set and put Legette in position to win over the middle and abuse whatever scrub is guarding him until the team starts calling zone

Value is also highly relative. In this draft, even secondary WR names like Ladd, Franklin, BTJ are gone by pick 35. All this comes down to is I’m higher on Legette and Matt’s higher on Pearsall lol

Nah, it applies to Legette just as much. Rarely does a raw and older prospect actually pan out. The justification is always "look at the athleticism" and wonder what he could be if he develops but the question should always be why didn't he develop (I give him grace in this regard) and do you really think, given the extremely low success rate, that this guy will be different ad actually learn the position in the NFL in a way that justifies his draft position? You're basically betting on him being AJ Brown or DK Metcalf cause the best guy after that is Chase Claypool and the best after that is Xavier Legette because the others are such net negatives.

this goes back to the value thing. A top 40 pick on a guy who will maybe be the 6th option with room to grow as high as the 4th is just bad value

That’s…. not where I’d put Legette.

I would put him in direct competition with Gabe Davis for WR3 with potential to grow into the 2.

Kirk, Engram, AD as the top three guys and that's not changing. If he usurps Gabe that's 4th - if he doesn't, it's highly likely he doesn't out target Etienne.
