  14. 97 + 149 for 101 + 141

    Bengals trade to Carolina

  15. Carolina Panthers select Javon Baker, WR, UCF

Panthers receivers were some of the worst in creating separation. Diontae Johnson, Ladd McConkey, Javon Baker fix this problem.

Steelers select Malik Washington, WR, Virginia

I can definitely see Pittsburgh doubling up at WR this draft. George Pickens is secure, but the rest of the room isn’t super exciting quite yet.

    Back to @Swoos

The Jaguars have traded picks 114 and 153 to the Los Angeles Rams for pick 99.

Jaguars select Kris Abrams-Draine, CB, Mizzou

I liked Ennis Rakestraw because he was a physical man-coverage corner who very rarely got targeted because of his skills. But the knock on Rakestraw is he’s not that athletic, doesn’t have size or length, and didn’t have ball production. These things make him not at all worth a first round pick and could even drop him outta the second, so the value isn’t there to try to draft him ahead of a team that LOVES him.

But there was another cornerback at Missouri, who by association got targeted a LOT at CB2… and he had the ball production (13 PBU and 14 PBU in back to back seasons). He has the same size concerns but better athleticism, and costs a lower draft pick cause he wasn’t CB1. I could see @CarpetElf thinking this guy is way better value for the same kinda CB and he’s not totally wrong.

Jags badly need to add cornerback talent to their roster, already lacking there last year and then cutting Darious Williams. But they do have the luxury of taking a guy who most likely projects to slot, because Ronald Darby could be an excellent stopgap at CB2 for at least a year or two. With that in mind, Abrams-Draine is far and away the highest quality CB left that can handle Nielsen’s demanding man to man scheme and we race to the podium to trade into the third round and secure him. We’ve seen 5’11” guys become absolute dogs before, it’s not totally impossible he develops into Darby’s replacement and prevents us from having to take corner high again in one of the next two drafts.

Washington Bonercats select James Williams, LB, Miami

He’s a bit of a tweener with his size, but honestly, Washington has enough holes that he’ll fit in somewhere.
