I also just hate the positional value arguments because teams literally follow that advice a dozen times every year and fail because, shockingly, taking a good player at a "bad position" is better than a bad player at a good one.
For sure! And, if you ask me, I think the Chargers should draft a tackle to shore up the line more than drafting a weapon. I’m sure they can find speed at WR in round 2 if they want.
I get the argument in a vacuum but in practice it gave us two years in a row of the Raiders having to justify themselves about a player that would literally be out of the league before half of their rookie contract was up.
I’m not saying any of this to be anti-Bowers. I’m not even anti-Pitts. I think Pitts is a good player! I think, in hindsight, I’d have easily draft Chase over Pitts. I think there’s more of a discussion to be had about him vs Smith and Waddle. It’s also worth acknowledging that, due to so many good WR entering the draft every year, teams theoretically could just wait on drafting a WR. I think they just make more immediate impacts as rookies than TEs due and a lot of these teams, unfortunately, not even having until the end of a rookie’s contract to see how they develop so they favor the more immediacy of a WR vs that of a TE.
The Raiders drafts the last few years have been truly wild. Like, some mind-boggling stuff from everything I understand. My uncle is a Raiders fan and even he was like “What the hell are they doing?”
The entire Gruden-era Raiders should be viewed as an aberration, but also studied intensely to understand just how fucked up it all was
Yeah, after years of him dominating and after the departure of Tyreek Hill he eventually attracted a lot of defensive attention. That’s not the same thing as Pitts looking average every time he is thrown the ball
It's kinda wild how much shit I've caught for caring about positional value when it comes to RB, but then when I decide not to care as much I still catch flak, despite like 95% of the mocks going the way I went lol I'm sure that's unfair and I'm probably just in a bad mood because of work, but still.
You’re not catching flak. I was agreeing with you that I wouldn’t love the pick at 5 either, but it feels like if you don’t someone else will, and that just looks irresponsible if your team needs weapons.
we've got two months for me to find out just how long it'll take for Randall to argue me into being okay with Bowers on the Titans
