everybody has different flavors and tastes, just go with what you feel for that pick. Sometimes I do either/or.

He’s the most elite wide receiver prospect since Calvin Johnson, wouldn’t surprise me either

sucks that you basically have to reach for Brock Bowers to get him lol. I LOVE Bowers but It’s probably not gonna be a great “value pick” and you’re just betting that he truly is the next top 10 TE of all time haha.

Atlanta’s losing that bet with Pitts so far dqm

I will not allow what Arthur Smith has done to him to enable Kyle Pitts slander.

I’m just saying, everyone thought Vernon Davis was going to be a legend but he still only really had two dominant tight end seasons and a lot more 500 yard 5 touchdown seasons. He also never had 1000 yards in a season once despite having WR speed.

Even as tight ends get used more in the NFL, so few of them actually end up contributing as much as a WR1 does to their team, so it’s always hard to justify that top 5 pick.

and the ones who do contribute that much (which is maybe what, 25-30 tight ends all time, or fewer, were able to do that for more than 1 or 2 seasons?) are usually not the guys drafted the earliest because of their flashy ball skills, but the projects who honed their skillset over time. Because blocking is actually more important to long term success at the position than strictly receiving even if the receiving ability is what gets draft value. Kinda backward when you think about it!

But yeah if you’re not in the Gronk Kelce / Gonzalez / Sharpe etc tier (or at LEAST as good as Witten) at route running and catching the ball… and you’re not like, known for your blocking either, it’s hard to spend a pick that high on a TE knowing it’s usually gonna take years to see if he can develop either one. You’re basically betting Bowers is the former, and on tape he looks like he could be, but that’s a really tall ask. (All that said, LaPorta was that rare TE who was sick right away year one, he could be a Witten).

  14. MHJ is pretty much like Caleb to me. Both took a step back this year. That's fine and they're still top talents in the draft but they are not the all-time talent that people are saying they are. That kind of 1 of 1 type player doesn't need a bunch of excuses made for them.

He admitted Gronk > Witten so consider me satisfied lol

  16. worth noting also that LaPorta was 22 and had as many touchdowns as Kelce had at 26.

Cannot overstate how much Pitts would have feasted in a modern NFL offense. Instead he got an NPC and Desmond Ridder lol

hypothetically, sure. what are the other realistic landing spots? cincy and miami? his importance would be much less at one to where he’d probably be “disappointing” due to a relative lack of volume of targets and i’m dubious how much better he would have been at the other with a QB that, while better, doesn’t always make his targets look better

My beef more-so is that Lamar was available, and Atlanta, holding Pitts and Drake London hostage, said nah no thanks we're good.

I agree with Randall. I don’t think it’s a knock on what Bowers can be as an individual player to acknowledge how rare it is for a TE to rival WR1-type production. I mean, LaPorta did just have himself a really good rookie season and still didn’t even crack 1,000 receiving yards.

Touchdowns are cool and all, but a lot needs to go right. The Lions had good QB play, a great offensive scheme, and a lackluster defense this year to help drive up passing volume in the offense. Kelce wasn’t getting that in KC during some of the Alex Smith years when the Chiefs had a much better defense than they did offense, despite Andy Reid.

  22. Kelce didn't crack 1k yards this season either but he damn sure was the 2nd most important player on that team

The take also fails to acknowledge how successful teams have been at drafting WRs outside of the first round except for the Patriots because they're stupid doo doo heads.

And frankly "Top 5 pick is only good value if they become a hall-of-famer" is kinda a duh take no matter the position.

Yeah and I wouldn’t argue that he’s not. He’s obviously an all-timer. I just think, if you’re taking a TE in the top 5 or top 10, they better be hitting the ground running close to that level. There are just too many stud WRs coming into the NFL ready to play right away to pass up on that type of player at, like, fifth overall
