    The rivalry is back on

Strong preference to not merge; leave it like a game day thread

Normally I would but this year is going to be way too hard due to the (likely) possibility of moving up early day 2 imo

    I’ll guess:
    (Trade down)
    Cooper DeJean
    Ricky Pearsall

but this year feels more up in the air than most for top fits; wouldn’t shock me at all if they go offense first

    My Broncos prediction:
Stay at 12 and take a CB or pass rusher
Any trades up or down and they go QB
3rd round is tough but I hope it’s either OL, WR, DL or ILB(If a CB is already drafted)

Discussion point: would you rather have Caleb Williams or Trevor Lawrence

(Trevor all day for me but I’m curious what non Jags fans think)

Going only off college game tape. I’d take Trevor for sure.

It depends. If I’m the Jags and somehow ended up with the #1 pick, I’d keep Trev and take the haul for #1 overall. If I’m the Bears and am offered something around Trev for the #1 pick, I’d politely decline and keep the pick. In a vacuum, I’d take Caleb because the best-case scenario of him quickly transitioning to be a star and getting 4 years of that on a rookie contract is how you win Super Bowls and scared money don’t make money

Caleb because he restarts the rookie scale clock and I believe he can reach the status of Lawrence within 2-3 seasons

I agree that Caleb could reach Lawrence’s current status in that time frame, but I also think the Jaguars have been very close to a worst case scenario for Trevor Lawrence and we are currently seeing his floor. The fact that he still had a very nice 2nd season is insane honestly. We have done an awful job of supporting the QB position. Doug Pederson is the only silver lining and he didn’t even call the motherfucking plays last year lmao

Resetting the clock is always a valid argument, but QB development is also a long process. Year 5 Trevor could very easily be 2x better than where he is now if we just fucking put some more quality offensive pieces around him and have our actually good coach make the calls

I'll give you the Meyer year. Otherwise? Hard disagree.

Line and weapons have been subpar for 3 straight seasons and the defense was good for like, half of 2022 and half of 2023. He sometimes has a running game but it’s very inconsistent.

the Jaguars picked a running back (and Lawrence's former teammate) in the 1st round

they traded for Calvin Ridley and signed Christian Kirk. They also have Evan Engram.

this "Lawrence is in the worst position ever" stuff simply is not true Randall, I'm sorry

Kirk and Engram are cool to have but there’s no go to guy on this team. Ridley failed to be that. Kirk has failed to be that despite putting up solid numbers per game otherwise, and this offense doesn’t use Engram that way.

Many including you were openly critical of the Kirk signing when it happened. He was a WR3 in Arizona. Many were questioning why they wouldn’t get him, say, a Jaylen Waddle at least.

Engram was not a good tight end for NYG when we signed him, we got very fortunate that panned out.

Ridley signing was a good risk to take but it was a risk, guy hadn’t played football in like 3 years and we chose not to re sign him cause he wasn’t good enough.

I mean these are moves you make when you’re trying to be cheap because you already have a great QB, not when you’re trying to develop and support one. He doesn’t have a Waddle or a DJ Moore or a Keenan Allen (WAS good when Herbert entered the league) or a Ja’Marr Chase AND Tee Higgins or a Stefon Diggs or a CeeDee Lamb or a DK Metcalf or a Deebo Samuel / Brandon Aiyuk or an AJ Brown or even a fucking Nico Collins.

I'm not saying the Jags' weapons are/were top 5 or something, but they are also not THAT bad. I would say they are middle of the road.

Compare that to every other young, developing QB though! How does every other team in the entire league develop a QB, they get them some sick weapons. Lamar is the only QB I can think of who is young and his team has just let him have average weapons

And shit even the Ravens at least TRIED. Rashod Bateman’s made of glass and Zay Flowers just got in trouble but they were both first rounders. And Mark Andrews is STILL better than anything Lawrence has

Jordan Love doesnt really have GREAT weapons. Its a bunch of baby 2nd round picks.

Tua his first year had literal NPCs, and his 2nd year only had Waddle.

Burrow had a nice situation, no qualms from me there.

Herbert had pretty comparable weapons IMO tbh

Hurts started out with not much but now has good options

Stroud had Nico Collins who people didnt really love and Dalton Schultz who is above average I guess.

Hurts got Devonta Smith year two and AJ brown year three.

Herbert, come on man lol. Allen being washed and Ekeler being gone is very very recent. Keenan Allen was still a borderline elite WR when they drafted Herbert.

“only had Waddle” would you rather have Jaylen Waddle or would you rather have Christian Kirk

Jordan Love, sure that’s fair. Aaron Rodgers ruined that shit for him.

  21. xbrokendownx

    Lets Go. Prestigious

    I would rather have Ridley/Kirk/Engram/Etienne than Waddle/Gesicki/Mack Hollins/Myles Gaskin

we dont need to continue anymore because we both have our opinions and thats fine, I just think your "Lawrence has had such a shitty situation!" thing is overblown, and I think the non-Jags fans here agree with me.

these are some of the kind of weapons other teams have gotten or had already on the team for their young QBs

the teams that don’t have these kind of weapons but have/recently had young QBs… their QBs are either Lamar Jackson, CJ Stroud, Trevor Lawrence *note that Stroud and LJ still have a better go to guy than Trev*… or they suck (Sam Howell, Mac Jones, etc etc.) sometimes they suck even though they HAVE weapons (Zach Wilson, Justin Fields) but those are outliers, there’s a common denominator here, QBs develop better in high powered offenses.

I’m comfortable admitting Trev isn’t as good as Lamar or CJ so far, the latter two might both be top 5 QBs in the league by 2025. They can do it in a subpar offense. but also with the caveat that Trevor could be as good or better than several of the other younger QBs in the league who have had more statistical success if he had similar support.

Tua was also not playing that well and was also taking on similar amounts of criticism if not more than Trevor until they did get him weapons so there’s also that
