Honestly I don’t get why that’s not a priority for most high 2nd round teams. Lock up young talent for half a decade.

 

I could see it happening if there’s an offensive linemen they really like that’s still available in the mid/late 20s. Their offensive line is dogwater

 

The issue is finding a late round team that is willing to lose that extra cheap year.

 

Washington can have 21 for their 2nd and 2025 1st

in a vacuum, I’d rather have an additional dart throw at a 4th rounder (using as a proxy for whatever draft comp it takes to move up from the top of the second to the end of the first) and have 4 cheap years of that player than get the 5th year option on a player you would have just taken in the second anyways

QB used to be the exception, but at this point, we’ve moved towards extending good QBs before their rookie deal is up that I don’t think it makes that big of a difference. And if you have to use the 5th year option because you’re on the fence, you probably should move on (or do something like the Packers did with Love in rare cases like that where you truly don’t have the data to say)

 

I’m currently intrigued by taking a day 2 RB

There’s enough of a need behind JT to justify it, and Jaylen Wright and Trey Benson both meet the athletic thresholds of a Colts RB, and this draft class is pretty bare of day 2 prospects who do that
