I’m okay with it. For one thing it lulls defenders to sleep. You should never show your full hand right away when you’re trying to be tricky or elusive. Changing gears depending on the route and the coverage is a good thing.

I think it’s pretty normal for NFL wide receivers to change up their route speeds, and reserve the absolute hardest running for times when they’re directly covered and need to separate at a route stem. Cause honestly half the time your job is to actually find the hole in the zone and then intentionally gear down so the QB can hit you in the hole.

I agree that he’s gonna need to run block and he can’t just not give effort, but if where he’s coming from is “there’s a time and a place for a full sprint, strategically” then yeah that’s good and most good NFL WRs understand that concept

 

If your role in that play concept is to get somebody else open, sometimes they’d want you to run slower just to hold the safety a little bit longer or something like that.

 

I'm fine with saying maybe it's a college issue and it won't persist in the pros but there's no real defense for it. He's taken himself out of plays that weren't designed to go to him but ended up having to and he was out of position because of it.

 

it's just a shame that he can't actually run the football without potentially shattering into a thousand pieces

Watching more on AD Mitchell and my god does Ewers miss him so much

 

It's wild. It's like, you really expect me to believe that this top four team with a round one hyped QB just happened to miss this one guy at historic rates? And then that's actually what happened lol

 

I often wonder how things would've been for Ewers if he stayed at Texas from the start and had more time with some of the players here (Mitchell excluded cuz he showed up late)

But then he wouldn't have as much money so I get it, get your money

I think he can be a damn good WR2 IF he ends up in an offense with a legit #1 that takes shots down the field

He can be deadly vertically and that opens up a bunch of stuff outside the numbers like speed outs and comebacks

 

Cool cool cool. I like him but haven't been seeing much about him

 

Patriots met with Tez Walker for a second time on top of meeting with Maye. I'd really love for them to find a way to bring both in together.
