Hot take:

Jags should start working on a deal to trade up from round 2 to round 1, with the Bills.

Bills clearly fire selling their roster and starting from scratch to try to create a second Josh Allen window, they already have 11 picks and maybe they want more.

Meanwhile, our window isn’t closed yet, but we probably need to add two serious impact players to this roster to do anything, and considering we basically went for a lot of cheap depth with signings I think being aggressive in the draft is on the table.

I would personally love if we took whoever’s BPA among corners and IDL at 17 stacked our offense with our second pick, Mitchell / Thomas Jr / JPJ are all guys I would happily trade up for. I do prefer a receiver who is capable of being a leader, especially cause Kirk is cuttable contract-wise if he gets hurt again or struggles - not saying that’ll happen but it gives us options. Ridley is also 30 and not likely to get longer than a fat 3 year deal - drafting a WR now = we can let Ridley finish his contract and then have his replacement already developed with a fourth cheap year plus a fifth year option still on their rookie deal.

if Ridley and Kirk both take a step forward, then that 3 WR tandem + Engram all of a sudden makes this a dangerous offense. If we are really treating Gabe Davis like a 2-year, $10M total rental and have no commitment of actually picking up his option, then he was also a depth / competition signing, and shouldn’t stop us from drafting his competition.

but giving JPJ a year as a swing IOL learning from Morse and filling in for whoever gets hurt would also be a very forward thinking move. We’d get 5 years of a great center, the year after we drafted an awesome tackle also in round 1, and we’re not desperate yet for JPJ to rush into the lineup - that’s how you rebuild a line. Currently our line is patched, not long term fixed. Morse and Ezra are short term solutions who can both be cut as early as next year if they don’t work out.

Do y’all think a third this year and a second next year is realistic enough to swap from 47 to 28 cause I’d do it.

 

We could take Quinyon and Adonai, the two Mitchells. I’m in love with both prospects. That would add both speed and physicality to our sideline skill positions on both sides of the ball

or we could boost the shit out of our trenches / get stronger on both sides and go Byron Murphy / JPJ

Either of those “literally draft two franchise player-level studs at positions of need” scenarios, I am FINE with not having a third round pick this year or a second next year. I would do it having in mind that 1) I’m gonna try my best trade any player that’s still good, but superfluous and getting old, for SOMETHING - maybe we decide JPJ is a better G than Scherff? Maybe Cam gets hurt and Little has a really good year? Gimme a late pick and let’s salary dump em to make room for Allen / Campbell / Trevor 2) I’m gonna try my best to trade down next year to compensate for the lost picks.
