And his suddenness with his first step / change of direction was obvious on tape at Marshall

It was clear no one was beating him down the field and no one had a catch radius to truly stop him from catching a well enough placed pass

that’s a 10.0. We might never see that again.

 

The source for this was the Marshall head coach telling the media. The NFL was also purely doing hand times back then and it was basically whoever could argue the best got their time accepted. His private workout with multiple NFL teams present are where I'm getting the numbers from.

Not true. The source for this was, Marshall’s Pro Day lol. Multiple team staffs including the Cowboys said it was the best workout they’d ever seen.

Combine was also hand timed at the time. maybe Deion Sanders didn’t run a 4.21 and Darrell Green didn’t run a 4.19 either. But I’m thinking it’s only by like 0.03-0.06 that the hand times are wrong, and they aren’t necessarily always “too fast”

 

My main issue with this is that the actual RAS number is just a percentile of the data points. 9.0 equates to “this collection of data points, using relative weights for each of the metrics compared to the other data points we have, falls in the 90th percentile of the sample of test results in the database”

if the underlying data was forced into a normal distribution if it isn’t already shaped that way, there is still a 90th percentile of the data, and that data point would still be 9.0

and doing it that way is mainly for legibility, not really for practical use — it’s easier to do that than to try to explain to someone unfamiliar with your metric that a prospect got a 157 on your normal curve that spans from 130 to 160 in 2 standard deviations

 

Wild that he had such a worse workout afterward, including losing apparently 20lbs.

 

Who knows, maybe that’s why he fell to 21. Had a history of questionable character decisions and then didn’t stay in football shape from his Pro Day to his private workout.
