I'm intrigued by Corley as well... he's got that Deebo Samuel bowling ball build to him and WKU used him similarly to how the 49ers use Samuel (a lot of tunnels/slants/drags/end-arounds)... just getting the ball into his hands and letting him work.

The question for me is if Corley is as explosive of an athlete as Deebo was:

I think the combine is largely overrated, but Corley is one of the few guys whose stock will either rise 50 spots or drop 100 spots by what sort of athletic ceiling there is. This WR class on Day 2/3 are filled with sub-6' guys who move and separate (McConkey, Wilson, Thrash, Cowing) and if Corley's explosion numbers show up to offset his lack of route running polish, he's going to move near the top of that grouping for me. If he's not quite the athlete, then he's probably going to slide to the back of the pack.

Combine as a whole is overrated but pretty much every position has important tests. It's moreso a pass/fail though. Like I don't care if Terrion Arnold runs a 4.45 vs. 4.52 but if he's north of 4.6 that's a problem. Basically there's a cutoff point and so long as you make it under then you're golden

Yep, to me, the combine is at best a tool to help figure out if a player has the athletic baseline to overcome the deficiencies in their game.

For example, both Terrace Marshall and DK Metcalf were elite, vertical WRs who were subpar route runners (that's all we heard about DK) that tested off the charts:

DK's weight and initial burst allowed him to bully cornerbacks in a way that made concerns about his route-running moot, while Terrace is an exceptional athlete in his own right, he doesn't have the same margin of error that DK did to ignore those concerns.

(Similarly, I'm excited to see Keon Coleman's numbers as well for this very reason)

I have a feeling they will take a QB at 12 because GM Paton is on the hot seat and will try to hit it out of the park with only 6 picks.

    The rivalry is back on

I agree with this in the first round or two with Randall’s RAS qualifier thrown in there too of elite prospects doing true outlier things (vs merely just landing near the top of an indexed value) mattering a lot too in a positive sense

Past the first couple rounds, I care (partially because my team cares a lot) in the sense that if you’re picking developmental players, I’d rather narrow down and take my shots (and as many shots as reasonably possible) on guys who have top tier physical traits — guys who are simultaneously large and in charge or with the highest of high end speed or abnormally quick in the trenches are more intriguing to me if they hit

Would be a fan of the first two picks from what I’ve heard about them. Don’t know much about Polk or the other corner just yet

I go back and forth on whether or not I’d like a WR in round two. I get the need for a WR3 on the team, but I fear that the role they’ll have is just going to be so small that I’m not sure how much juice they’ll really squeeze out of the pick

But tough to predict what the status of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith will be in relation to the team two years from now so, if the BPA on the board is a WR, go for it I suppose

    The rivalry is back on

on the one hand, you need a certain kind of guy to be ok with being drafted high only to sit behind Brown/Smith for the foreseeable future without throwing a JSN-like temper tantrum about it and that’s easier said than done to find

on the other hand, “hoping a couple key guys stay healthy over the course of an NFL season or we’ll give this year’s Julio Jones a lot of snaps” is a terrible depth strategy

Exactly lol. It’s a tough line to walk. That’s why I’m hoping they bring in a free agent who is used to that kind of role so that it gives them some more flexibility in the draft by allowing them to take a shot or two on day three guys if they’d rather not take one in the second.

If the Eagles walk out of the draft with a good corner or two, I’m a happy man. The back seven of the defense desperately needs more juice

Since I've got it up now:

    - High RAS isn't a guarantee but the best receiver to get a sub-4.1 is Hunter Renfrow. And the 8/50 guys below 5.5 that worked out are all expert route runners.

    - Size is Tank Dell. Tank, Hollywood, and Devonta put up BIG numbers in college too.

    - Anyone above a 4.55 40 better be a superb route runner. The list is Puka, MT, Boyd, ARSB, and Kupp.

    - A sub-30 vertical is no man's land.

    - A sub-10ft broad isn't the end of the world but we're talking like a 10% hit rate so still not good.

    - Keep the shuttle below 4.4 and 3-cone below 7.1.

The exceptions to all of these are top of their game and also not first rounders with the exception of Calvin Ridley.

Yes I would want him but that pick’s going to Calvin Ridley because we didn’t hold off on throwing him like, his last two catches lol
