    The rivalry is back on

im sure management won’t see it this way, but it seems like as good of a situation as any to churn the roster, take 2024 on the chin while you’re dealing with the worst of the dead cap hit, and enter 2025 in a much more favorable spot with a good pick and hopefully some emerging young talent

I think youre right on both parts. With Paton(GM) seat already pretty hot, I fear hes gonna try to knock it out of the park with FA signings and the draft.

Man Jags gonna have to take him in round 1 aren’t they

Doesnt make any sense! Why do better centers Linderbaum and Humphrey drop lower in the draft than JPJ sounds like he will

Because teams are learning. Linderbaum and Creed were top 15 talents. They had no business falling. JPJ, idk where he's gonna rank for me, but still

    Trusted

IOL is not a premium position.

QB/WR/OT/CB/EDGE will always take priority and typically go ahead of guards and centers.

Penalties aside, JPJ's stats are better or on par with (because there isn't a number less than 0) Linderbaum and Creed. You look at the company he's in and there's three power five guys in his group that didn't work out and two of them were injured throughout their career.

    heaven knows what i am

I'm very thankful the Lions took Frank Ragnow in the first round. Go look at the Lions splits with and without Ragnow... centers make a huge impact and – while you can find a center on Day 2 or 3 – if there's one you feel is special, take him Round 1 and don't look back.

Linderbaum was undersized, so he was limited to teams with zone-blocking schemes only:

The Humphrey slide doesn't make as much sense to me even in hindsight, but my theory is because it's such an integral and cerebral position, teams might be less likely to go into the draft with just nothing on the depth chart there or be willing to trust a rookie, which causes GMs to look at positions of more immediate need-filling... Which is perhaps why good teams like the Chiefs or the Ravens have the ability of drafting centers high because they can afford to make such "luxury picks" on maybe non-immediate contributors.

Im not sure undersized means zone schemes only. Maybe for tackles that’s true but it’s different for IOL. Zone centers have to execute very difficult reach blocks which you do want length for. Usually the stout / stubby guys are better for power schemes cause they block guys in a phone booth far more often

If you’re talking about weight I would say that having good technique with a low center of gravity & a lot of strength matters more than weight as a number, which Linderbaum clearly had both. You actually don’t want your center too heavy cause they gotta be able to MOVE. The main knock on him size-wise was very short arms
