These are always fun to look back on. Some WHOOFs

 

I tried to come around to the Maason Smith pick. He did look like he was gonna be an absolute stud in his freshman year and was a 5 star recruit. But I think the comparisons he’s being given are way too lofty, apparently a handful of analysts think he looked like he could’ve been a Chris Jones type prospect before the injury?

I mean if THATS what you see in him then I get the appeal, he is a very twitchy 35.5” arms freak who uses his length very well, but that just feels way too rich for a guy who took a whole year just to get back to like, 65% of what he was before the ACL tear. He is disruptive but doesn’t have NEARLY the sack/pressure production for me to even buy into that a little bit.

I’m no longer going to post my takes on the WRs we acquired cause everyone has heard them too many times now

but it is interesting PFF podcast agrees with me and made *several* of the same points about the pick I made in here. Not every legit analyst thinks it was a slam dunk pick, especially when framed in context of what we already did at WR.

On the flip side they spelled his name as “Brain” Thomas in the opening frame… and Chris Collinsworth is in this panel of analysts… so maybe the PFF podcast doesn’t have nearly as good of quality control and due diligence as PFF itself lol

 

I still love Javon Baker on the Pats. Dude seems fucking crazy and confident and that is exactly how I like my WR's.

 

That was one of my favorite value picks at receiver. I don’t really understand what teams don’t like about him. He has a really diverse skillset. He can win jump balls on the sideline and he can kill you with YAC over the middle. To me he’s Jermaine Burton that DIDNT get in trouble off the field and played for a smaller school

 

he’s fine as a 4th rounder, but I don’t really like him as much more than that; he doesn’t have a trait I’m overly excited about, and I’m not a huge fan of when prospects have to transfer down in competition to start to see the field and produce

@MidDave who doesn’t make the 53 at receiver for yall? Polk, Baker, Bourne, JuJu, Pop, Osborn, and Thornton is quite the collection of WR3/4 with upside types

I would also say Thornton is out because I think Reagor is gonna retain a spot

Good for Reagor. I know he stinks, but it’s not his fault that Howie drafted him over Justin Jefferson. Hope he can carve out a nice role for himself in his career, even if it’s just on special teams

 

I like him. He sucks ar catching the football which is a core task of his job, but I like the blocking, the effort and the special teams abilities. Thornton hasn’t really shown me anything yet and Juju and Boutte are kinda basket cases lol

 

I honestly forgot that Thornton and JuJu were with the team when I was thinking about the Patriots WRs recently lol
