I view it more as “this was an awesome class and someone had to be the last top receiver taken” and AD ended up being the guy on the shortest end of the stick falling to WR11

The only argument is that I should have just ignored Randall

 

But also if that report about him having a bad attitude sometimes is true I could see that being the reason a lot of teams dropped him

 

This isn’t an argument. It’s not arguing every single time I elaborate on what I think. You asked me why I so stubbornly preferred Adonai and I answered you honestly. And also was fair about it and played devils advocate with myself about “maybe raw is what the Jags coaches WANT”

it could be! But I think it’d be more in a tiebreaker “we like multiple guys and the references came back better on the other guys” kind of way than a true “we plummeted him down the board or knocked him off entirely” kind of way

 

Just speaking from the Jags perspective, one of the things Doug Pederson prides himself on and expects from his players is “being the same guy everyday”. He and multiple Jags players say these words verbatim in press conferences to the point I think it’s repeated a lot inside the building.

Most teams prefer a player to never get too high or too low, just always being about business and progress and humbling themselves to keep personal feelings out of it. But for the Jags it’s an actual mantra they repeat and say out loud, not just an ideal. So I could see them being like “nah, we’re not going to take Adonai” for team culture reasons. And I could also see that being why they didn’t at all explore trading for Diggs / didn’t end up getting Aiyuk.

 

Eh, I’d buy that a little more if there wasn’t such a discrepancy, but AD was almost universally mocked ahead of guys like Keon, Ricky, Ja’lynn and often Worthy too.

There was definitely a discrepancy. Does it matter? Prob not. Colts may be more comfortable with things than the Patriots are or whatever. I just find it easier to believe Buffalo and New England took him off their boards than I do they had him lower than who they selected on merit

 

I don't put a lot of stock in draft capital but as far as roles go - teams that needed a WR1 passed on him. A team that needed a WR2/3 took him. Seems clear enough
