2021 QB draft class sucks now

 

somehow Palpatine returned meme but it's Manny Diaz making his QB throw 40 screens a game

 

Will be interested to see what Merrill Hoge says about this QB class cuz he was pretty much dead on about 2023

Okay so one position I've always whiffed on and have never improved at is kickers so I put them all together in a spreadsheet so I could see if there are any trends. It's absolute chaos and now I'm firmly on never draft a kicker. 14 franchise kickers had under 75% accuracy in college. Half the guys that finished with over 90% never made a roster or are Zane Gonzalez. Only 20% of the kickers with great accuracy beyond 50 yards ended up any good, most never even made a roster. No correlation between punting, kicking off, rugby or soccer experience. The only thing that resembles a pattern is every kicker with a sub-80 PFF grade has been at least serviceable and all but three kickers with 25 or fewer attempts their last season ended up good.

TL;DR - don't draft kickers

Punters are a little easier. If they get it inside the 20 40% of the time or more they're going to be pretty good and drafting punters has worked out much more. The ones that weren't drafted were almost exclusively on teams with terrible special teams units which made their numbers look worse.

Jason Myers is a 10-year player and two-time pro bowler and he only completed 86% of his college extra points and 50% of his kicks. More good NFL kickers completed 0 50+ yarders than those with great accuracy from that distance. No website that I've found has it figured out any better than I do. It's a crapshoot. Just don't waste the pick.

If you’re looking for a kicker, I’d rather throw $5-6M/year at a proven NFL kicker than spend a remotely good draft pick on one

It’s all a crapshoot for that position, but seems like the chances of hitting are better and the more chances you have at cost controlled talent on the main roster (even if it’s just a special teams player/backup with upside) the better so why waste one of those on a kicker

 

Best case is congrats, you’re spending <$1M at a position where the kicking GOAT makes $6M!

 

simply go scout college soccer games and find the next Brandon Aubrey

 

Newton clears

 

I think I’m finding myself into Daniels at 3.

I am just nervous he’s more of a run to run rather run to throw kinda QB, but having the chance to maybe land a dual threat QB at minimum will be fun, and something I haven’t seen in my lifetime as a Pats fan except the Newton year I blocked out
