Whatever is left of the 24 million guaranteed dollars that is not paid yet, would be accelerated to the current year if we cut him (this is where the potential out comes in - that’s the $14.6M in dead money IN addition to what we already paid him.)

This makes it more expensive in per-year cost to cut him after year 2 than to just keep him the 3 years and pay him the $39M dollars. So we’re essentially not going to skip his option unless he’s a malcontent and a poison in the locker room.

Those cap numbers do not include the void-year guarantees, the leftover $10.4 million is not a fourth year option, it is a void year, which is an accounting technicality. Technically $10M of the money comes off the books in 2027, but that can be changed with an extension or a restructure or a cut. while it gives us flexibility, Davis is still physically earning that money in the first 2-3 years and is still getting at least $13M AAV no matter what.

I’ve explained this many times before, but the reason people shout Duval isn’t because Jacksonville “is in” Duval county, it’s because the city of Jacksonville IS the entirety of Duval county. The county and city government consolidated in the 1970s and this expanded Jacksonville’s city limits to the entire county. They are different names for the same thing.

Mecklenburg is not synonymous with Charlotte in the same way.

Baltimore did the opposite and Baltimore City government separated from Baltimore County government.

unsurprisingly, both moves were just different approaches to gerrymandering so that inner city black votes could be crushed by opposing white voters with more money in the suburbs and countryside.

No one who grew up in the Jags generation actually does research on why the city and county governments consolidated before they were born, don’t be silly. All they know is Duval and Jacksonville are both the same thing.

 

Jacksonville confuses me every time I visit down there. I never know if I’m still in Jacksonville or not. These little suburbs and developments feel like towns but they’re just neighborhoods.

 

This is how actual Jacksonville locals respond to me explaining that too lmao. So much like Matt with Twitter versus here,
