I’d have loved him never to be a topic to begin with but alas

  6. This year’s draft is such a weird experience for me. I’m so numb to how disastrous the Bryce trade was that it never even crosses my mind that we should have the #1 pick haha. It should definitely make me feel miles more disappointed heading into this draft, but I’m in my offseason optimism mode so nothing matters.

And while I’m excited that we have 33 + 39, when you think if why we have those picks, it’s equally as disappointing as not having the top pick. There’s a world where we traded Burns to the Rams for those first rounders, avoided trading up last year, and are walking into this draft with multiple firsts and seconds, including the top pick. But we greatly fumbled the bag. And here we are.

New GM. New HC. This should bring some hope. And for now, it does. I really like what I hear from Morgan and Canales but as a fan, it’s easy to fall for stuff they feed us in the offseason. I’m ready to see them in action. This week is the first opportunity for that. Despite all the shit above, we’ve set ourselves up fairly well heading into the draft.

Shored up the OL to where we don’t really need to address it in the early rounds. If a guy falls, then sure. But I think we’re ok there. And we brought in Diontae Johnson. I think this move has been a bit underrated. We got him pretty cheap and he’s instantly our best WR. That isn’t saying much, but pair him with one of the guys in this class and you could be looking at a decent group.

With those early 2nd round picks, we are in a prime spot to land one of the top LBs in the draft. I’m just not sure how the league values the position these days. Wilson and Cooper would not surprise me at all.

I’d probably rank our needs heading into the draft as:
WR, CB, LB, EDGE, TE, C, RB

If we can walk away from day 2 with a WR, LB, and CB, I think it’s a pretty successful night. But I’m open to EDGE and TE if the board falls a certain way.

Signing Gabe Davis to slightly less than veteran WR2 money, when you need a WR but want to save money, is like drinking salt water when you’re dying of thirst. I get why you’d instinctively reach for that, but you are better off skipping it and finding another source of water to solve your problem lol.

That’s not “cheap” for his skillset and he might be a net negative considering 1) you can probably find a better, more versatile WR3 in the draft next year or even the mid rounds this year if you’re patient 2) yes, he will make plays, but he’s also very predictable, and you have to factor in the ways he makes your offense more one dimensional if he lines up as your X receiver rather than someone way more talented. That stuff - the, “a safety took away Kirk because a corner was able to read and take away Gabe one on one on the other side of the field”, might not show up on Gabe’s stat sheet but it definitely affected the Bills offense at times

  10. WRs that we definitely won’t get:
    MHJ, Nabers, Odunze, BTJ

    The next group:
Ladd, Worthy, Franklin, Legette, Coleman, Pearsall, AD, Wilson

That’s 8 guys in the next group. I could be talked into any of those 8 guys at 33 or 39 or wherever we trade down to. I just want our HC and GM to know better than me and pick the right guy. I haven’t had that in so long….

It's more like pretending you're too good to drink Dasani. He's making 11.4m over two years and can be cut after that. That's 5.7m for a WR that averaged 800 yards and 7 TDs over the last two years. He's a very good run blocker. And as far as third targets on teams go he's one of the best in the league. And he's getting paid like Allen Lazard and Darnell Mooney.

I think it’s mostly the money that bothers me. Cause we’re also trying to save money for Trevor’s contract. I don’t want receivers that don’t move the needle taking up that cap space.

If Gabe Davis was signed to a bargain deal like $7.5M / up to $9.5M per year with incentives, or maybe with an option that kicks in later if he proves himself to be valuable like Kirk had, that’s one thing, sure throw a dart at a “possibly” good WR3 at that cost. But we instead signed him based off his production, which is borderline WR2 on paper but I personally think it got extremely inflated because he had a top 3 QB who loves to throw the low percentage vertical routes he runs. Lawrence is not as good as Allen and he also doesn’t love the deep ball as much so I’m just not seeing him replicating that.

We are LITERALLY paying him less than what you're saying.

    No we aren’t

    3 years $39M

It has some contract-ese in it that makes it sound like we could cut him with him earning less but functionally we are locked into either like 2 years $31M or 3 years $39M it’s something weird

For off field reasons, if they just love Gabe Davis as a person and as a voice in the locker room / film room, then I can come to accept that.

this is not correct. I actually did research on it and it’s not like this at all. If it was I’d be fine with the signing.

I’m pretty sure I posted about it and included a link when we first signed him and were debating it

  24. I was kinda into the Jags as one of the teams I root for on the side for a few years. I liked Lawrence and some of the aggressive moves they were making over the years. But then I went to a game with my dad this past season and I gotta say, I’m out on the Jags.

    Cap Number:

    Year 1 - 4.7m
    Year 2 - 6.7m
    Year 3 - 17.2m
    Year 4 Option - 10.4m

He's fully guaranteed 24m and that's spread out over the next 5 seasons.
