I think that has to be correct but I don’t think that’s justified by his performance. He’s been at worst a league average hitter and often better. Looks like advanced metrics haven’t loved his 2B defense the last couple seasons but if he’s remotely playable there I think you take his bat at 20m for one year.

 

honestly I don’t blame the Yankees for moving on from Gleyber. He’s just not good enough but who knows if whoever the backup plan is good enough

 

My biggest issue is that they should be doing what the dodgers do where they are liberal with giving one year deals to guys (like Teoscar) knowing that some will be busts but that’s ok, it’s one year and it’s just money. If he’s great, great—if not cut bait and eat the cash. QO is a great chance to do that. Sure they would’ve ended up paying 5m more than the market said Gleyber was worth but this is the goddamn Yankees that shouldn’t matter

now maybe they know something about Gleyber that I don’t that makes them doubt he’s gonna be worth much of anything going forward. but it seems like a weird decision without that
