Burning a Yankee jersey with no name on it is hilarious. Like just stash it in a drawer and see if some other good player wears 22 lol

I don't think you have to assume "he thinks the Mets have a brighter future" to come up with a non-monetary reason he could've chosen the Mets though. Dude already has won a world series; he checked that box as early as you possibly can. Maybe he likes the idea of being what, potentially the second-greatest Met of all time after Seaver? With the Yankees, as good as he is, he's not even the best guy right now. And maybe just a shot at top 10 for the franchise all time?

I think elite players care about legacy stuff like that more than we think they do. For all the "aw shucks I'm just trying to help the team win" nonsense platitudes they repeat in interviews, this is a sport built on individual accomplishment more than team accomplishment and the best of the best know that. Soto might just want to be THE dude. He's never been that on a roster before, not quite. And all due respect to Lindor but he's that now, unquestionably.

It's probably the fact that it's actually an $800M contract though.

I'm sure there was an ego aspect that he's not gonna be THE guy with Judge there.

any forum that has survived to this era of the internet will be here forever imo

although it’s insane to think that sotos contract is as long as I’ve been posting here and on ap (join date may 2009 but had lurked since at least 2007 sometime)
