Out of the loop, why did it take so long for this guy to sign? Isn’t he decent?

the market isn’t favorable to a lot of the higher profile names this offseason

lots of question marks for the best bats and arms that were available this time around and I’d guess many teams see a better opportunity in making trades, promoting from within, or waiting until next offseason to offer big contracts

there’s also been so much bad and unwise spending in baseball in the last several years that this seems like a rejection of the “pay me till I’m 40” types of deals that had become commonplace and nobody from this free agent class really commands that many guaranteed years

 

for snell, he just walks too many guys and, despite leading the league in era+, he also was worth 0.7 fewer wins than Eflin for the Rays simply because Snell can’t consistently go deep into games or eat innings
