I didn't see the O's game, but they referenced that when this was happening. The issue with this one was that in order for Soto to not be in the way, he would have needed to go out of the basepath and not get back to second, so the guy would've been able to catch the ball and would already have basically been standing on second and Soto would've been out anyway.

 

That sounds very similar to the O’s game. The runner was off the second base bag as one would normally be while someone else was hitting. Then he slowly moved back to the bag since he knew he wouldn’t be able to advance safely and doing so accidentally put him in the path of the defender attempting to catch the ball.

see josh, what you don’t understand about baseball just yet is that the baseline for most fans is misery

being a mets fan is just for a people very practiced in misery, held together by that thin aura of hope always on the horizon

 

I remember at the beginning of last year, talking with my neighbor (poor Mets fan) about how they were really looking like they were trending in the right direction and could be a real threat.

i’d say that if the rays can’t win a world series within the next 10 years they will fall into the mets category of misery considering what happened with our perennial mvp candidate in the making

 

sometimes I wish I was a Mets fan so I had an external excuse for why I’m sad all the time

It's always a bit shocking to find out someone is a Mets fan. My initial reaction is usually, "yeah, but why?"
