i for one am glad the rays extended neander and cash all the way through the first years of the new stadium opening despite what many fair weather rays fans (i know i can’t believe they exist either) think about cash because they only watch 8 games a year

 

Yeah, but a lot of those front offices that would do that are also known idiots.

CIP: My below zero trust of Cashman is that I expect Soto to be hurt or bad within 3 weeks.

(And, that there's just a weird carousel of mediocre to bad managers that keep getting jobs over and over again (in every major sport) I kinda think is another rant for another day.)

I feel like Dodgers fans view Roberts the same way Yankees fans view Boone but in actuality Roberts is maybe a little better overall. Neither is a “good manager” though because there’s only been one of those in the last decade and it’s Counsell

 

Yes I am excluding hall of famer Bruce Bochy intentionally

I don't think it's true that Dodgers fans view Dave Roberts in the same way. I wish Fangraphs of The Athletic or someone would do a manager satisfaction survey so we can get a real temperature check on fans' view of a manager.

I also don't agree that neither is a good manager. I think Roberts is probably average to maybe slightly above average as a tactician, but really shines at managing the clubhouse and the grind of a season. When I watch Dodgers games, I don't often get the sense that the game is getting by Roberts or that he's routinely making the wrong move. I feel largely the same about Boone (emphasis on the clubhouse), though think some of his lineup construction and bullpen management can be a bit much, but largely is fine.

If I was tier listing managers, Roberts is probably high B, low A tier with Boone being a step below wherever Roberts is

I've literally said my championship expectations during the Boone/Cashman era are zero

 

You make very good points and I think you’re probably right about Roberts in the clubhouse, which of course is something nerds like me can’t quantify and tend to overlook haha. I am not sure I agree that Boone is as good of a clubhouse manager though.

bottom line is ever manager is not as bad as the fans of that team think he is. Except Marmol obviously who is the worst manager in human history, non 2022 TLR division

To be clear: most managers are just fine and that’s okay! Managers that don’t negatively impact the on field game and are liked by their players tend to do well when they’re given good rosters. Boch and Snit are both absolutely in that category

 

I thought Fredi was a fever dream thanks for reminding me bahaha

 

Rocko has mostly been fine, does make some questionable calls when it comes letting pitchers pitch, but he’s done the best he’s could with cheap owners
