If anyone would like me to get drunk and watch In A Violent Nature again, I will be happy to convince you of it’s brilliance
Seeing In A Violent Nature in a theater this year was a high point for me. Haven't revisited since but I'm sure it gets better with second viewings. Need to watch Hit Man soon.
It had my favorite moment in a theater, when a guy and his girlfriend left a half-hour in and yelled “This movie fucking sucks!!”
It’s a good test that weeds out absent minded Terrifier gore hounds who heard how violent it is but will find it “boring” and A24 dweebs looking for elevated horror or who aren’t horror fans who will be mad at lack of plot and thin characters. Actively rewards fans of trash 80s stuff while also delivering a solid stinger at the end
The Beast was excellent - unsettling and very Lynchian. Lea Seydoux was perfect of course. It will definitely appear in my top 10 whenever I decide to put one together.
I need to watch the Beast again. It was very early in the year and I didn't give it enough attention.
It was probably the most surprising of the year for me and I suspect it's one I'll grow to love even more as I revisit it. I loved House of Tolerance when I saw it years ago but I haven't seen any of his other films.
While I did watch movies like Ghostlight, Evil Does Not Exist, and Sing Sing, there are plenty of other dramas I haven't gotten around to yet or that are just inaccessible at the moment. It was a particularly strong year for horror. 1. Dune: Part Two 2. Nosferatu 3. Longlegs 4. Furiosa 5. Civil War 6. Alien: Romulus 7. Dìdi (弟弟) 8. Rebel Ridge 9. Inside Out 2 10. I check the entire state every day for showtimes for Hard Truths, The Brutalist, and Nickel Boys. It looks like all three will get easier to see the next two weekends. I could make a two and a half hour drive to Fort Lauderdale tomorrow to see All We Imagine as Light but I need to buy new pants before the semester starts on Monday.
I only do sandals with shorts, with pants I wear loafers. During my 30s I moved to tucking in my Hawaiian shirts in with pants.
If I am free roaming in the world it is basketball shorts or maybe black khaki shorts if I have to carry stuff and then either a polo or a black t-shirt. The only time I wear pants is work and the only time I wear closed-toe shoes is something formal that makes me. It is going to be in the forties this week and people are going to give me a hard time for not wearing a jacket.
I'm planning to go to Europe to avoid the winter but I'm also planning on buying a leather jacket while I'm there.
The last time I was in Europe their version of the TSA made fun of me for wearing shorts. It was January.
