But it didn’t workout and there weren’t really any other options to make another splash. That’ll have to wait until this summer. It was the right move to trade him away though. It wasn’t just that he said he wouldn’t extend, it was the clear decrease in effort during his short time with the team. It was a major distraction and would’ve remained one the rest of the season and throughout the summer.

It sucks to get our asses kicked. But I think we did the best we could with the situation.

i don’t really disagree with you. that’s not really what i’m saying haha. i’m just saying it sucks it couldn’t have worked out with him. he is exactly the player we need right now with this series.

 

Rantanen thing stings regardless. I’ve been harping for years about how Carolina is too small to seriously compete and Rantanen would’ve been a big part of overcoming that. Stankoven is a solid piece that plays the system well enough, but we were too small already with Aho, Jarvis, Blake in the top 6.

Just an unbalanced squad that got even smaller going from Necas to Rantanen to Stankoven. Skjei and Pesce downgrade to Ghost and Walker from both a skill and size standpoint has been really rough.

I’ve been banging the drum on going for Bennett this summer, not just cause they obviously have a glaring hole at 2C but because the size and grit and tough bastard attitude is sorely lacking on this team.

 

They just don’t have any game breaking talent. It sucks because there aren’t any super glaring holes throughout the roster, but they don’t have *that* guy to put them over the top.

I also hope that Carolina signs Bennett so Don Sweeney isn’t tempted into giving him the “future buyout“ special

exactly, you give him a contract when your core is already in place and you need a “missing piece”, you don’t pay him to be “the guy”

 

I get it…but you make the deal if you’re close to winning. The first half of the contract is what might take you over the line. Go for it.

 

Hawks are definitely going to strike out on Marner and Ehlers and sign Bennet to that contract for the symbolic torch passing from Foligno and we will continue to blow chunks
