I appreciate your deeper insight here. I think I am personally OK with Larkin’s comments because I do feel as though Yzerman failed him this season starting with the opening move of the offseason, and I def think Larkin has made several comments in the past that have been more on par with what you wanted from him this time around. I also do see a trend of him being mopey within these interviews starting from when Bertuzzi was traded away. I chalk it up to being emotional, but I think he is def dropping tidbits that could have been better kept private in his end of season meeting within the org for sure. and it only adds a clip for online media to pull and create more controversy about.

i could go on and on about my distaste for how the overall rebuild has gone in Detroit. it is endlessly frustrating to watch other teams acquire guys via free agency, trade, or waiver wire and then flip them later for a 1st round pick while Detroit continues to sign 80 free agents and then they end up walking or losing all value because they weren’t good to begin with. the biggest concern i had going into Yzerman’s first year of major free agent signings (Chiarot, Copp headlining the group) was that they were gonna push themselves out of being lottery level bad, but would not push themselves up to playoff level. unfortunately, that is exactly what has happened, but somehow it’s even worse because Yzerman refuses to take a stand one way or another at the deadline.

it’s def the most important offseason for Yzerman here. I feel like he has cap space to reformat the roster and this is the year he really has a good opportunity to get creative and push them to the next level. but i just don’t know if they have enough elite talent on the roster for it to matter.

 

This sounds a lot like the Eric Staal years post cup win in 06. The human element that comes with being the main guy and captain of a bubble team that consistently comes up short and never gets the talent infusion necessary to get to that next level is hard to overlook. Sometimes when the patience required to trust the process runs thin because the process seems to be aimless and never ending you need to add at the deadline just as a morale booster and as a sign that management believes in your group. These guys aren’t just robots that can do the underdog thing year after year and be happy fighting that fight. Look at Buffalo.

Genuinely bummed we’re not getting to face a fully healthy Devils team. A playoff run without your best guy definitely has a “what’s the point” vibe to it anyway, so to get decimated on the blue line after game 1 as well is such a bummer.

 

and Siegenthaler is already out and he is our best defensive D lol

One advantage Keefe has is that after Toronto, he's used to not having his stars perform in the playoffs anyway.

 

First two periods were frustrating but the third period and especially OT were some of the most exciting hockey I've ever seen

Still no reason to start these games so late on a weekday lol

 

If Ryan Lindgren is the best player for the Avs, the stars are doing something right.

 

Avs / Stars game was awesome even though we lost. these games gotta start earlier lol

 

man, I remember staying up until like 2-3am for some Stars playoff OT thrillers.

 

I will forever associate Stars playoff games with one thing - seeing that Cujo save on Nieuwendyk in 97 and having my mind blown.

Canes looked off it tonight and NJ had a really solid game 2 after that no show game 1 so that’s a major win right there

 

Scheduling is awful this year an 8:50 PM puckdrop for Game 1 of two eastern teams is insane
