what a weird comment to make. Maybe take accountability for disappearing in March once again. I’ve never been a big fan of Larkin personally and this stuff adds to it.

just want to point out that Larkin was great in April last year. he was injured in March and effective when healthy. this year, he def faded down the stretch, but still was almost at a point per game pace in April when the team was fighting for a playoff spot.

i think it’s weird to call Larkin entitled at all. he has given everything in him, even when he was going through some extremely tough personal things, to the Red Wings. i think about players like Tavares, Parise, Nash, Panarin who all bailed on their teams in one way or another and i’m extremely thankful Larkin decided he wants to continue playing in Detroit when he would have been one of the top free agents in the modern NHL instead.

And it’s not like he is wrong with what he said. the team was close to a playoff spot two years ago and Yzerman did nothing. the team was IN a playoff spot last year and Yzerman traded a player away at the deadline. the team was within like 2 points of a spot this year and Yzerman got a mediocre goalie and a waiver wire forward. that’s 3 prime years of Larkin’s career that he could have gained valuable playoff experience, and instead he has to have these end of year pressers instead.

i get what you’re saying to an extent, and i understand why Yzerman wouldn’t want to give up a ton of assets for rentals at the deadline, but i think he also has a reason to feel frustrated right now. Ottawa went out and got Dylan Cozens and they’re in the playoffs right now. Detroit could have really used a guy like that to help make up for the loss of Copp for the rest of the season.

Tampa fucked the market from the start of this deadline. You have players like Debrincat saying they were starting to gel under Todd, and didn’t feel like they needed to just add at the time. Which based on prices, there wasn’t a move to make.

I don’t agree with the comparisons to other players. If Larkin wasn’t from Michigan he would’ve requested a trade by now. I think those ties and comfort here is why he hasn’t left. And I don’t blame him from being frustrated, but the moping and deflecting gets tiresome. He’s a good player, but doesn’t seem like a good leader.

you’re the captain of the team. When players are complaining that help didn’t arrive during a deadline, you would think the captain would step up and say hey, we need to do our part to prove we can add in that scenario. Instead we started sliding and losing showing no fight. He can be frustrated, but it starts with him a lot of times, and when we start those losing streaks, he’s nowhere to be found.

And I’m not defending Yzerman, he’s done a good awful job. Like, if it was any other GM they’d be canned by now. I’m sick of it with him and he needs to show he understands free agency and pro scouting because he’s failed miserably in that aspect. He’s a good scout and has a good draft record. But everything else has been awful.
