meh, any time the Canes are "rumored" to be in on signing someone big, it never happens

I guess you don't make a trade like this if you don't plan to sign him, but we'll see what happens. I hate them, but i'd much rather he signs with you guys than the Rangers

 

Not gonna lie I thought this kinda sucked for Colorado because it feels like this year is a clear outlier for Necas but who knows, maybe he fits well with Mackinnon

I’m pretty sure I said this when they got Guentzel but I feel like Carolina needs a game breaking talent to be a real deal cup favorite and Rantanen is even better than Guentzel. Love this for them if they can get him extended

 

Carolina’s thing has always been about not wanting to pull the trigger on the wrong guy or get caught “losing a trade” for a guy who doesn’t pan out, definitely not about the owner being cheap or Carolina not willing to commit the money to guys they consider their guys. They went down to the wire with Guentzel but ended up getting squeezed because of all the other holes we had to fill last summer. The fact that they made this move and Necas went the other way coupled with all the cap available in the summer means a deal is getting done, obviously don’t know for sure but major confidence on that.

Necas is great and I don’t think I could come up with a more complimentary duo than having him paired with MacKinnon, Canes fans have been spitballing this exact trade for a while now for that particular reason. Canes get an arguable top 10 player in the league, dominant power forward game breaker talent. Colorado gets the most palatable “downgrade” possible for Rantanen, and gains future cap space to balance the roster a bit more going forward.

I've always thought Necas could be a 100 point player in a different system. He's got a ton of speed and skill. I think he will do well with Colorado playing with Mackinnon

 

Like the other Canes fans, was a big fan of Necas. But this is too good to pass on. Tulsky rocks.
