I watched some of these goals on a CRT TV in my sophomore dorm.

I don’t expect to him to win, but he is top 1,2 and 3 in a good chunk of defenseman stats. The fancy stats support the surface stats. The team is in a playoff spot. He has also been a more vocal leader. It’s been a joy to watch him and this team every night.

This is a no brainer trade for Carolina, right?

Regarding the character issues, it all seems to me like he’s a guy who hates losing more than he loves winning and he can run hot and let things boil over from time to time. If you ask me, that’s absolutely the kind of guy our group needs to rejuvenate a locker room that has maybe lost a bit of mojo after the summer departures. Carolina is known for their culture they’ve built since Rod took over and everything about Miller just screams Rod. Plus, the Tony D situation shows they’re willing to work with and embrace difficult personalities.

Beyond that, I can understand the wariness to bring in a guy turning 32 in a few months signed long term and the potential he goes full bum way too soon. I think at some point if you’re serious about winning you have to take risks and maybe even just accept some contracts that might not age gracefully. A lot of that risk gets mitigated if you’re moving on from a bozo who was supposed to be your long term 2C but ended up being what everyone already knew he was by the time he left Montreal. Kotkaniemi is unfortunately a nothing player at this point and getting Miller for 3 million more, even with the additional assets being given up, is a no brainer like I said earlier.
