We equating success to quality now? Music isn’t sports hahah

 

No but I’m saying if a band has been successful for that long they’re probably doing something right!

 

They’re a marketable band whose vibe hit the market at the right time for that sound to get popular. But that doesn’t mean I have to think they were good in hindsight. I’m with spiffa, they’re a mostly boring band. And back when they weren’t boring musically, lyrically they were whiney and cringe in a way that society has recently realized is passive aggressive sexism. So I don’t really have any reason to try to go back through their discography and challenge that opinion haha

 

The Blue Album has some bangers

the rest of their discog is whatever

 

Yeah Blue Album had a couple of those catchy songs I’m talking about that I don’t mind listening to when they’re randomly on

 

I dunno when the last time I even heard a Weezer song was

just another commercial band that paints by numbers really

 

In general I don’t think talent / quality and success have very strong of a correlation, sometimes they go hand in hand like when Beyoncé gets famous but other times… Jake Paul becomes famous lol

 

It was probably this actually, they played whatever single it was at the time, if I remember right it was pretty cringey

No one. Everyone. It’s just opinions maaaan

 

Blue and green albums are good. Pinkerton is wildly overrated. The rest has some fun stuff mixed with some forgettable stuff

 

My “fun goofy band with loud guitar chords” picks are Blur, Alien Ant Farm, Pixies

and for the Pinkerton kind of 90s emo / indie rock, to list other popular examples, I prefer The Get Up Kids and Jimmy Eat World’s first album Clarity among others. The softer sides of Millencolin and Dismemberment Plan can also be in this umbrella, those are a little less popular but I like and listen to them more

Does anyone like either of the following bands:

the Vines
the Hives

they both had like one huge hit and then faded from there but I feel like they wrote fun ass garage rock / pop rock. Vines were from Australia and the Hives were from Sweden I think

 

The Hives just put out an album last year

some of those early 2000s songs from The Vines rocked, think their singer had some mental health stuff

 

Northlane has a cool cover of Get Free by The Vines that they did for an Australian radio station’s YouTube channel

 

Are the Hives still good? I have no idea lol

but yeah I think I’m more nostalgic for stuff in that garage / aggressive in a fun way, category of rock than I am for the majority of pop-punk / emo I grew up listening to more

 

Oh I have no idea I just remember seeing the album thread here on chorus last year lol

 

Oh and skate punk. Still really enjoy the late 90s skate punk boom.

other than that it’s all either heavier music or stuff that leans harder into the alternative / indie spectrum

Def not a northlane guy but I like that cover! Haven’t really listened to them. Dont listen to much of that style at all anymore

 

The blue album and Pinkerton are good. Rest of weezer sucks.
