i wouldn’t call it “predictive” so much as just a strong correlation. Important to remember that correlation isn’t causation and a high YPRR or low YPRR is also highly situational and doesn’t necessarily mean a player is good or bad at running routes.

even when PFF adjusts players’ YPRR to scale it with what their “expected / average” YPRR is depending on what kind of personnel their team came out in, they still find that only 52% of those WRs drafted in rounds 1-3, who were in the top 75th percentile in Adjusted YPRR, also end up having a season above 75th percentile in PFF WAR (wins above replacement), which is their best metric for measuring a starting NFL player’s effectiveness. Meanwhile, of those WRs who don’t have a top 75th percentile Adjusted YPRR… 24% of those still have at least one season that PFF would measure them as a good starter by WAR.

So while a player is twice as likely to pan out if their YPRR was a very strong number for the kind of offense they were in… the stat does not inversely suggest that a player who doesn’t stand out in YPRR is incapable of succeeding, nor is it a completely reliable blueprint to determine who to draft and who not to draft. A fair amount of the low YPRR still slip through the cracks and end up as good receivers and a fair amount of high YPRR don’t end up that good. So this is why I say correlation not causation, it’s not an independent variable that single-handedly can allow you to judge a prospect absent of context.

The way you feel about spiders is how I feel about wasps and hornets and, as much as I love my outdoor deck, I go inside immediately if I see one.

thankful a nest has only been built once and I had the landlord take care of it but the potential of getting stung repeatedly by a thing that moves in awkward directions through the air and swatting only makes it worse… can ruin what is otherwise the best part of my apartment

Same, can’t deal with those assholes. I keep a bottle of raid or whatever it is by the back door and spray as soon as they start building a nest
