I mean, I think the draw of Seattle specifically is being near the job market. There are other, similarly pretty and cheaper areas in Washington with reasonably sized towns near them (Bellingham, Olympia, Ellensburg/Cle Elum) if you’re flexible in that regard, but I don’t think people are reasonably coming to Seattle for reasons other than working with the big employers in the area and being flexible to switch jobs if you are inclined to do so.

I would likely be flexible as most jobs I'm interviewing for are remote and my current one is. I'm interested in Washington in general for the slightly cooler weather (and i'm a freak for rainy/cloudy weather after living 20+ years previously in AZ) than where I'm at in the Bay Area, it being less expensive (to me), and the no state income tax thing which is a bonus.

Seattle specifically jumps out at me because I want to try living IN a city like it at least once in my life and my parents are considering Bainbridge Island for a retirement spot in the next couple years.

Otherwise I'm open to anywhere in the PNW that would get me somewhere near water.
