Sometimes it's difficult and requires the break to just get to that point in your relationship with a team

Dumb but true

 

What’s fun about football to me is strategy and it’s very un fun when discussing that strategy just leads to arguments and judgment and when my own favorite team is one of the dumbest ones about strategy lol

 

I had to step away to just have fun with it after the Texans were a heaping pile of shit and my favorite player at the time Deshaun Watson turned out to be among the worst human beings in the sport

 

More so the first part of my post though. Kind of annoying I didn’t even say anything I just left the chat after the Jags took a shit, and everyone is mocking what I would’ve said. Yeah, I like to look at and analyze the reasons why or why not a team sucks or doesn’t, if that’s not fun for y’all then why am I even in here doing it

 

About 9-10 years ago I made a decision for my
mental well being to step away from the bruins.

I watched every game and let it affect my day to day way too much and found myself way too invested when they would fall short of expectations every damn time (although I did get 1 moment of happiness).

I couldn’t do that anymore. Granted I was like 18 - early twenties and didn’t have much else than I do now, so it’s easier now, but still have barely gone back. Will casually watch playoffs but just can’t let myself get back to where I was

Like I literally said nothing about the Jags loss except “well Jags are just ass it’s everybody’s fault now” and people are still like “LMAO RANDALL BE LIKE”

I have an opinion and Matt gets mad that the stats say something different

fuckin who cares lol I like to read on playcalling and shit you like to look at stats and shit. There are a million ways to come to a million different conclusions about sports it’s not objective and it’s not a contest but it somehow always gets made that way like the “professionals” are even correct 50% of the time about this sport

 

Footballs just creating a lot of dumb conflict in my life which is all definitely partially my fault but it’s reciprocal and constantly perpetuated in the way people respond now and I don’t like it anymore lol

You are correct that the dynamic is not healthy. I made the joke in part because it was funny but also because the examples showed that this whole time all of us really have been listening to exactly what you've been saying and taking it in. It's just that you very rarely listened to others along the way and yes Matt repeatedly fought back on everything even though both of you knew where the other stood. Dropping it goes a long way (for both of y'all) because it's not being misunderstood as much as it is just having a different belief and needing the validation from others repeatedly is unhealthy. And dropping it once is not the same as making a habit of it

 

I’ve already given up on the idea of the Eagles being actually good so when I post I’m just doing it out of humor. I stopped caring when it became abundantly clear before the Bucs game that shit’s no different than it was last year so my mentality has just been “Call me when next season starts.”

Even then, I’ve honestly just lost interest in football in general. So many teams are just mediocre or absolute dogwater and it’s become a bit boring or stale to watch. I’m no longer interested in staying up late to watch games that seem like they could be good. I’ve found myself valuing my sleep more because I have several other things going on in my life right now that require much more of my energy than watching the Chiefs sleepwalk to another Super Bowl or watching Nick Sirianni act like a complete buffoon week after week

I agree with all this but we also have a very weird groupthink in here that the minute one take gets latched onto the other “belief” gets ridiculed and that’s what I mean by, the dynamic is reciprocal

 

i made two rules for myself regarding the bears because i'm too emotionally invested:

try not to get too analytical with their performances
don't bet on their games

makes sundays much more enjoyable lol. last thing i want is to be pissed in a win because dj moore got stopped at the 1/2 yard line

 

I suppose, but it could also just be that people have opinions and it is what it is. I think it's just that harping on about one thing has resulted in that thing being made fun of more often than not. I thought Gabe Davis was a shit signing (yes including at the time Matt) just like you did but I still make the jokes about it or whatever just because of how frequent of a topic it's been, just trying to keep shit light because life is heavy enough as is

 

Idk man and as far as the whole “needing validation” thing, it’s just nice sometimes to admit you can see where I’m coming from and think what I’m saying is plausible even if you personally don’t at all agree. That like barely ever happens and it makes me feel reactively stubborn because I’m used to people not giving a fuckin inch anyway haha

 

Actually Dustin, you do that well and it’s part of why we get along. I try to do that for other people do while also explaining my own response to them

 

My team is currently 1-5 and I injured my shoulder fist pumping at a touchdown lol

 

I've also seen you use it later in arguments and be like "SEE you said I was right about this back then so what gives"

It makes it less likely to give any of that (even though I still do)

 

Idk people can still be better though. Just contributing additional thoughts
