Well I’ll be damned

 

Just an update because I know a lot of you know I live in Tampa. I’m heading back to get Sarah and Maverick and we’re going to stay in St. Augustine with my parents. It’ll still be a strong storm when it hits the east coast but we’ll be safe at their house.

That link wouldn’t open on my cpu but the details that came out today are, unfortunately, really bad: Jabrill Peppers charged with assaulting girlfriend, drug possession
am I crazy or is this getting more and more common from players? At least 3 very similar incidents just this year, things only some of the worst people do (beating, chocking, putting women through walls, threatening with weapons). There’s always been some pos people in the league but I don’t remember it being this bad.

I'm not surprised there are a lot of violent and shitty people who play a very competitive sport all their lives.

 

Man I don’t know. Violence is one thing but this kind of violence that’s so brutal and psychological and the sexual assaults are a level of cruel that I can’t put on just being very competitive.

 

Sadly there are just an overwhelming amount of shitty people in this world.

A part of me worries that dropping the hammer on guilty players could potentially be even more harmful for the victims.

 

I don’t see how that could be the case, what. Everything I’ve read about dv (and what little I experienced) is that when people don’t face accountability the cycle just continues

I don't mean let them go scott free, just too harsh a punishment (no matter how much they may deserve or warrant it) can cause issues. They may threaten and further harm the victim if they recognize those they harmed are willing to pursue justice.

I'm just saying it's a complicated issue and i don't have any answers.

 

The latest update is it’ll make landfall in or near Tampa Wednesday evening. I’m not working tomorrow because we’re going back tonight or tomorrow morning. Our clinic is closing Wednesday and Thursday.

not to ~trauma dump~ but tornadoes can just come out of freaking nowhere, but there's still usually enough advance notice of conditions that could create tornadoes

 

I would imagine there's a combination of things at play:

A) It's getting more common
B) Victims are more willing to speak out then they were before
C) It gets reported more by the media than before
D) Because it's been enabled for so long whatever minor threat of consequences has been eroded
